Cold fronts can bring more than a change in temperature. For some people living with arthritis and autoimmune rheumatic conditions, shifts in barometric pressure and colder weather may temporarily increase joint stiffness, aching, or headaches. While weather does not cause arthritis, it can influence how symptoms are felt.
If you notice that weather-related flares are becoming more frequent or harder to manage, it may be a good time to check in with your rheumatology care team. Ongoing disease management remains the most important factor in maintaining joint health through every season.
