💯Vulnerability 💯

When you see or read that word, you have a reaction of some kind. We are so curious to find out what that reaction is!
•••
To find out, there was a question prompt for one of our Fall events that read: “Vulnerability is _______”
•••
Here are a couple answers from the community and relevant themes:
1. It’s difficult.
2. It requires a safe environment.
3. There’s strength in it.
4. It can be risky!

These themes are reflective of what we are on mission to build at Armor: A safe and secure community rooted in authentic relationships and courageous vulnerability! Showing our scars isn’t pretty or easy or even convenient. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. But we can learn something from those who practice vulnerability: it’s worth it! As we pursue healing and breakthrough in our lives, it’s the very thing we are afraid to bring to light that has the power to set us free! “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:5)!!

Faces of The Arena: October Edition 🍁

If there are any specific moments that represent why Armor Boxing exists, it’s in these moments. Fortunately, I get the privilege and honor seeing things up close as people are winding up punches while their peers encourage them.
•••
It baffles me the difference in demeanor and optimism of those who come into the Arena — knowing that they have the support of a community, are believed in, and have full permission to use aggression in a positive manner!
•••
I cannot help but connect this to how we view God in our lives. In the case of The Arena, do we view Him as someone sitting with His arms crossed outside of the ring pointing out the flaws of our punches? Or is He close to the ring shouting encouragement and telling us that He’s with us, supports us, loves us and believes in us?

I shared this a couple weeks ago but my own personal tendency is to believe the first statement instead of the latter. My self-criticizing, self-judging, self-condemning thought patterns keep me in a pattern of constantly believing that I am not good enough.
•••
The great news is that these thoughts do not come from a God who gave His son to have a relationship with us. One of my favorite Pslams says that God knows us intimately; every desire, thought, intricacy, uniqueness, quirk — and not only that but “loves us from everlasting to everlasting” (Psalm 103) That’s a long time!

October did not disappoint! Grateful 🔌⚡️for this community!

Sunday was a breath of life as we came together, trained, ate and had our first community discussions about a staple topic: Gratitude.
•••
Gratitude has countless research links to improving mental health in several dynamic ways including improving mood, attitude, physical health, social bonds and one study conducted by Utah University found that, “Expressing gratitude can positively change your brain.”
•••
Most importantly, 2,000 years ago Jesus said “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
•••
There is something so foundational about gratitude that has a proven, positive impact on our lives, yet we often disregard it. Why? That’s exactly what we discussed on Sunday! We loved the participation from the community and there will be more of these moving forward!

We are excited to announce that this month, we are going to have our first Armor Night dedicated to connecting relationally within our community!
•••
What does that mean? Instead of a speaker or guest, we’ll be getting to know each other more through intentional table discussions facilitated and led by our Team members over dinner!

Finding a secure, supportive, consistent community has been a point of emphasis in the feedback we’ve received and what a great opportunity October will be!
•••
What is required of you? Nothing per usual. Show up and we’ll be prepared to dive into topics that will enable us to cultivate a sound mind together!

MVP of October Armor Night: 🏆

Sewa shared her incredible story through an experience with domestic violence. The courage, strength and boldness she spoke with is evidence that God has redeemed and is still redeeming her story!

We need each other and our mission at Armor is to be that community.

We also learned about Jesus breaking religious and cultural barriers through His encounter with the woman at the well (John 4). Many are carrying wounds handed down by religiousness — judgement, slander, division, etc. In that one encounter, Jesus broke every major cultural rule in His time as He extended a hand of relationship promising to meet her every need. If you’ve stepped away from God, know that He will never step away from you!
