Hey you love bugs!

I have spent the last weeks exploring the Washington, Oregon and California coasts; Tidal pools, redwoods, and hot springs. I have had such a wonderful time, including experiencing brand new types of bodywork.

Trigger points are places in taught muscular bands that when pressed (latent trigger points) cause sensation, pressure, and pain in other parts of the body. These points can also cause this pain and discomfort when not being touched called active trigger points.

I had a client come in with concern over a headache today, and from her symptoms and history with the headache I thought it could be a trigger point pattern in the sternocleidomastoid and/or the splenius capitis. Turns out it was both!

The photo shows are a map of the trigger points for the sternocleidomastoid: the Xs as where the trigger points can be and the red dots where the pain can be felt.

Sometimes where the pain is, is not where the problem is.

I am happy to say after a focused session she is feeling much better!

Neuromuscular therapy is a type of massage therapy where I use the knowledge of referral patterns for a muscle and deep pressure techniques to release tension and pain.

This is a technique that I use in all of my sessions if appropriate for the client because it is so effective.
