National Volunteer Month Spotlight on Katrina Williams: I choose to volunteer at Mercy Care because I was a part of the women's recuperative care program. While I was there, I made lasting relationships with the people who work at Mercy Care -- to them it's not just a job, they really care about their clients. They make me want to give back.

My favorite Mercy Care moment was just recently at the Holy Thursday foot washing event while washing a young lady’s feet. She was beautiful and smiling and God used me to tell her about the women’s peer group and anger management groups at City of Refuge. Her reply was a sigh of relief and a giggle saying I was speaking directly to her because she needed that! It warmed my heart and we both smiled as I washed her feet with love.

Volunteer Spotlight : "Mercy Care has been an important part of my life for more than 30 years. While supporting the mission financially has been routine, it is actually being present at Mercy Care and interacting with clients that brings me the most joy. I particularly value the opportunity to participate in the annual foot washing on Holy Thursday each year. It is very intimate to wash and care for another's feet and each encounter is unique and memorable. Their stories stay with me —Tia, who wore bright pink toenails to honor her sister who had died of breast cancer, or Michael, who was fighting to maintain his life and dignity after losing his job. Knowing that Mercy Care offers not just health care, but reverence for each person's value as a child of God, makes it an organization I am honored to support."

Our AMAZING dental hygienists, Kim and Tiffany, saw more than 1,300 patients in 2025 -- that's a lot of clean teeth! With patient comments like "Very friendly and helpful" and "the dental hygienist was very caring and understanding," it's evident that they are bringing Mercy Care's core values of compassion and excellence into their daily work.

Kim and Tiffany, we would like to wish you a Happy Dental Hygienists' Week and let you know that we appreciate your hard work this week and always.

Volunteer Spotlight: C. Reflect on your favorite Mercy Care moment: "While working the registration desk at the annual foot washing, one of the clients asked me what my definition of mercy was. He was adamant I answer even when others started to talk. After a few moments, I answered "a gift with grace." He was happy with that and I realized how much our clients desire real human connection. Later on, Sister Jane said her definition was 'love in a time of need.' I have come to know some really special people since I started volunteering. It fills my heart."

Yesterday, Mercy Care hosted its annual Holy Thursday foot washing event. This year, we welcomed 49 clients to have their feet washed by 44 volunteers, and our physicians were on hand to provide wound care to 24 clients during the event. This tradition represents Jesus' act of washing his disciples' feet before the Last Supper and symbolizes the importance of humility, love, and serving others. The event is meaningful to both our clients and our volunteers, many of whom return year after year.
