I know I could be spending a little too much time with you
But time and too much don’t belong together like we do
If I had all my yesterdays, I’d give ‘em to you too

Primary care is so much more than the number of patients on the schedule that day. It’s reviewing hundreds of pages of labs, countless specialist consults, and a never-ending flow of portal messages.

It’s not just knowing what drug to prescribe, but knowing how to make sure the patient can afford it. It’s managing their mental health when the psychiatrist is booked out for 3 months. It’s celebrating promotions, welcoming new additions to their families, and holding their hand on the worse days of their lives.

Primary care is the quiet work that many don’t notice until they need it most and the privilege of walking alongside people through all of it. 💕

March 10th is National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day ❤️

Let’s clear up some misconceptions regarding HIV in women.

03/08/2026

In honor of International Women’s Day here are a few data-proven statistics:

Women make up over 70% of the total US healthcare workforce 💪🏼

Female PCPs spend an average of 15.7 more minutes per patient than their male counterparts, according to a study that analyzed data from 24.4 million primary healthcare office visits. ⏰

Moreover, research shows that female PCPs are more likely than male PCPs to:

-Care for patients as individuals
-Communicate with their patients more frequently
-Do a better job at giving nonverbal cues
-Increase feelings of empathy and concern

Research has shown that female providers have a greater chance of:

-Spending additional time reading electronic medical records
-Using greater caution when prescribing specific drugs, including painkillers
-Carefully weighing the clinical hazards
-Ordering more extensive testing
-Requesting additional references

Studies show that female PCPs are more inclined to seek informal advice from their peers than their male counterparts.

And that’s just in primary care - in the ER research involving over 580,000 heart patients admitted to Florida emergency rooms over 20 years indicated that mortality rates were lower for both sexes when a female physician was providing care. Moreover, the likelihood of survival was lowest for women treated by male physician.

In surgery a recent analysis of over 1.3 million patient outcomes published in JAMA Surgery indicated that female patients had a 32% lower risk of death (and a 16% lower risk of complications) when treated by a female surgeon as opposed to a male surgeon.
