Caution: reading proficiency tests are biased against children who stutter. There are several oral reading tests (i.e., DIBEL) that count every "error" in reading against the child. Some children have been held back a grade for "illiteracy" when symptoms of stuttering were falsely coded as reading 'errors!" We absolutely want children who stutter to be robust readers but not fall victim to discriminatory grading. (photo credit Pexel)
