Critical Inner Literacy is a term I created and defined after my dissertation. I knew that I wanted the term to make sense on the most practical level.

Even though I chose a very unconventional path after earning my PhD, I have always been committed to making sure that my research supports other living beings who want to fine alignment in life and purpose.

If you see me in a corner doing any of this, just know that an argument was avoided, an email was given a little more thought, or the other cheek was turned 😂 in other words, yoga, meditation, and breath work save lives. PERIODT.

Try one of these techniques the next time you are feeling overwhelmed. Your nervous system will thank you. 🙏🏾

Type “breathe” in the comments if you want me to breakdown the exercises in an upcoming post.

What are some of your go to practices when you’re feeling overwhelmed?

20 + years of getting my 🍑 handed to me on a platter. 🧘🏽‍♀️
But seriously, for anyone who thinks yoga is a waste of time, it isn’t practical, or you aren’t cut out for it….please let this reflection serve as evidence that yoga is “that girl” who will read you your rights, affirm that you are worthy of love, and encourage you to breathe the whole way through.

Bottom line, yoga reminds us that the core of who we are is there, even if we must peel back the layers we have accumulated that tell us it’s not.

Thank you for the original post that inspire me to write my own. 🙏🏾

What lessons have you learned from yoga/meditation? What has been the most humbling and/or transformative unlock for you?

Even if your mind tries to ignore what your body is telling you, your body will always remember. 😮‍💨

It’s hard to slow down, especially when the stillness cultivates awareness. It may feel overwhelming to listen at first, but the mental fortitude you gain in the listening can be life changing. The softness that you offer yourself is truly the key to longevity and nothing about THAT is weak.

It’s finally feeling like fall. When seasons change I like to really pay attention to my body from an Ayurvedic lens so I feel balanced. 🧘🏽‍♀️

This Carrot Ginger Soup is a quick and easy recipe to do just that.

Ingredients:
1 Tbsp ghee (or olive/coconut oil)
1 small onion, chopped
1–2 Tbsp fresh ginger, minced
2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
1 tsp cumin (ground)
1 tsp coriander (ground)
½ tsp fennel (ground)
½ tsp turmeric
5-6 medium carrots, sliced (~700 g)
3-4 cups vegetable broth
Salt to taste
Finish: chopped cilantro/parsley, some black pepper

Dosha Tweaks:
🥣 Vata: Use ghee + coconut milk; make it a little thicker and serve hot.
🥣 Pitta: Reduce ginger, add extra cilantro + lime.
🥣 Kapha: Skip coconut milk; add a pinch of chili or extra ginger/black pepper.

Who’s ready to age with ease? ✨
Try these gentle exercises for longevity:
▪ Legs up the wall
▪ Forward fold
▪ Tai Chi tapping [a personal fav!]

I’m not afraid to age. It’s an honor. Grateful for a practice that encourages me to slow down and enjoy the process.
Oh, and that skin tapping is essential in my skincare routine. 💆🏽‍♀️

Rest days be like…

One of the best things you can do for your physical + mental health is to make time to rest.
Rest…
without guilt
without expectations
without regret
JUST REST.

The world can feel heavy, find time for a little joy— even if it looks like dancing + twirling in the sun. ☀️

I can remember a time when i would resist my own joy. I’m done with that. PERIODT.

Consider it mental hygiene to carve out space and time to practice joy. It is essential. Happy World Mental Health Day!

I started yoga because I thought it would just help my physical body.

I continued yoga because it supports my central nervous system too.

Yoga reminds me in moments of overwhelm, when I’m feeling anxious, and when I literally want to double down on my trauma responses (my personal favorite is: flight ✈️ 😘) that I will not let stress win. Instead, I lean into the breath work I learn through yoga.
