- Why I always got the Guys...
Celebrate Men's Wellness this Month

Being the tallest and, quite possibly, the strongest whenever I worked at other spas or contracted for an event, anytime a man booked a massage or a facial, they sent him straight to me.

Being over six feet tall, and I guess people thought I could "handle it." And you know what, I could. They were not wrong. I didn’t mind it one bit.

I used every ounce of my strength during massages and poured all of my skincare knowledge into understanding how to get them to stop using soap and shampoo on their face. And “why” if it wasn’t for a significant other Men would never come in to get a massage or a facial. I wanted to know this.

I think quite possibly because Spas were built around the needs of women.

But let me keep it real…
When the men kept coming back, the whispers started.
The side-eyes.
The assumptions.
The NayNays.

Didn’t matter that I was in church every Sunday and Bible study every Wednesday—folks judged me because I served men with excellence. And after a while, I shrank. I let their opinions silence me.

But here’s the thing—when you make your purpose about other people’s opinions, you lose it.

And I had not come that far to lose mine.

The truth is that most men didn’t come to the spa for themselves,
a Women brought them in with them.

But after that first session? After that first deep breath?
They come back. Because even the strongest men need a place to exhale. That’s why I shifted my focus.
I began designing spa therapies that were still relaxing, but also restorative and intentional—with men in mind.
Not only flowers and fluffy stuff.
Just space. To breathe. To ask questions. To just be chill without judgement.

Because honestly, for Men I didn’t know myself:
– Where men go to release the weight of life
– Where men go to feel human again
– Where men go to be taken care of themselves

Except maybe to another woman, and that just never ends well, or sports bar or simply in front of the T.V. So, I wanted Spa to be an alternative option, that space. My team and I would in fun say we were in the relationship "saving business"

I honestly don’t claim to be that place—but I did create space for that to begin.

Online and in my treatment room, I’ve heard it firsthand from Men:
“I didn’t know how much I needed that.”
“I haven’t felt this calm in years.”
“I didn’t realize how much I was holding… until its gone.”
That’s what self-care looks like for men.
It’s not loud.
It’s not always scented.
It’s the quiet return to self, so Men can keep showing up strong—not just for others, but for themselves.
So, if you’ve been wondering if spa therapy is for you—this is your invitation.
Find a local Spa and go in for a visit. But not all are the same so ask questions. You don’t need a your significant other. You don’t need permission.
You just need a moment.

Today, I want to take a moment to address a message I received yesterday from a young man who reached out to me privately, and with his permission I’m sharing this conversation, So let me say this with compassion and with a little chuckle I share not sure if his question is BS or a real concern for him but I thought I'd share anyway.

Because I believe a lot of younger professional men are thinking the same thing but aren’t sure how to ask. I have seen this in my practice where folks will not even say they have to go to the bathroom and just be uncomfortable. Stop it’s normal. Really.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲:

I can’t speak for every therapist out there, but I can tell you how I operate and how I trained others in my practice.

Massage therapy is one of the only professions where you walk in, check in at a front desk, and within minutes, you’re in a softly lit room filled with calming aromas. You're asked to undress (to your level of comfort), lay on a warm, cushioned table, and cover yourself with a sheet. Then, a trained professional enters that room, exposes one section of your body at a time, and gently applies warm oil to your skin.
That’s a deeply human experience.

Touch is powerful. Touch is intimate. And for the male body—just like any body—touch can trigger a physical response like becoming “Full” (again you know what I mean). It doesn’t mean you're doing something wrong. It doesn't mean you're thinking inappropriate thoughts. It means you're human.

When I speak with clients—especially men—I explain this upfront during the consultation.
𝗜 𝘀𝗮𝘆:

I always encourage male clients to lean into the experience. Let go. Breathe. This space is for you. If you get "full" it happens, that’s between you and God. My only concern is maintaining a space that is positive, appropriate, and professional. If that boundary is ever crossed, the service ends immediately, and that’s a different conversation.

But in the absence of disrespect, your physical response is just that—a response. It’s not perversion. It’s not shameful. And it’s more common than you think.

So, to the men reading this who’ve been curious about massage but too nervous to try it—you deserve wellness too. Your body, mind, and nervous system carry so much. And while conversation with the Guy's at the sports bar is great, regular spa therapy is a way to balance the social activities. It has lasting benefits to the body. It’s the opposite of a hangover—it’s a healing reset.

You don’t need to wait until you’re burnt out to take care of yourself. Massage isn't just for sore muscles. It’s for your peace. It’s for your clarity. It’s a vibe to rest, restore, meditate, manifest, or just be quiet.

Imagine this—a pregnant man fighting lions, tigers, and bears!

Crazy, right? Yeah, I thought so too. And I’m sure that’s why God broke one human into two—so the cares of this world could be shared in a way that makes sense. Men strength, women capacity.

While the man is out slaying dragons and battling Goliaths, his other half holds the ground at home, doing what she does with grace and grit. That’s why the load of life was never meant to be carried alone, yet we do.

The real is that men experience stress, emotional strain, and mental exhaustion just like anyone else. But how men approach wellness and self-care often look very different.

Men’s self-care looks different for a few reasons. You weren’t built the same—and that’s okay. Your body and nervous system respond to stress in unique ways. But I’ve seen even the strongest men breathe easier after a professional therapeutic massage or a deeply relaxing spa facial.

A Swedish massage or targeted spa treatment isn’t just relaxing—it resets your system, restores your focus, and gives you back your edge hanging out takes away. Socializing with the guys over drinks helps in the moment. Spa therapy lasts long after. No hangover—just clarity, calm, and renewed strength.

And fyi you cannot just spa once, a year on Father’s Day, the benefits are cumulative.
