❄️ Winter storm coming! Has it already hit your area? Stay safe & warm!
🍽 When you need to eat during a storm, eat what you have. Don't try to drive on icy roads!
🥫 Canned goods can be useful if the power goes out - tuna, fruits, veggies. Be sure to have a can opener that doesn't require power.
🥗 Get fruits & veggies if you can, but try not to worry about food groups in an emergency situation. Get fuel for survival.
⚠️ Remember food safety. If you lose power, put food from the fridge in a cooler right away. When in doubt, throw it out! No one wants to be sick during a storm.
➡️ Fluids are important, too. You can fill water bottles to be sure you have plenty on hand in case pipes freeze.

Everyone is going bananas over the "new food pyramid" just released. What's the deal?

There are new dietary guidelines released in the U.S. every 5 years. Sometimes the graphics for nutrition education are updated as well. We had a food guide pyramid, then a different pyramid, then the MyPlate, and now this pyramid (or cone or triangle, depending on how you look at it). The bottom line is that the actual recommendations for balanced nutrition have not changed much.

We need food from all 6 food groups to be healthy! Choose a variety of foods & follow your body's natural cues. If you need help personalizing your nutrition plan, please see a Registered Dietitian. Not every RD will be a great fit for you, but I assure you they can help you more than AI. 😊💪👍
