Wouldn`t it be nice if we could all just set a goal for our own wellbeing – go for it - and make it happen? But we cannot. Somehow there is almost always something more powerful that prevents it from happening. A force, that makes you do something that is not aligned with you goal. Something that makes you backslide and feeling weak for doing so.
A perfect example is people who are depressed: “I want to be a happy, carefree person, but here I am, being down in the dumps and taking antidepressants for it”.
My job is to align your actions with your goals, so you can experience the joy of life again!

Here is a challenge for you: Do you realize that you live in the past? 85 -90% of what you do, what you say and how you respond to the world around you is based on what you learned BEFORE age 9!!

What does an Elephant and a Rider have to do with Hypnotherapy, you might ask? The answer is EVERYTHING. 85 - 90 of what you do and how you react to the world is controlled by your powerful subconscious mind. The Rider, who has the willpower and the analytical capabilites is powerless against the strong Elephant. Ever had the experience of wanting to do something yet you do something else / complete contrary? Lose weight? Stop anxious thoughts? Wanting to fall asleep? Procrastinate? Endless examples. The best reason for seeking out Hypnotherapy is when the Rider wants one thing and the Elephant makes you do something else!!! In Hypnotherapy, you can change the way your Elephant feels and then you will change your behavior. Permanently.

Often times my clients come to me and say:" I have tried EVERYTHING and NOTHING works"! Everything....,but Hypnotherapy that is.
The only person you can change is yoursel!!
And because 85 - 90 % of our behavior is controlled by our subconscious (our strong Elephant), permanent change is only possible, when we change the deep rooted, subconscious beliefs which control our behaviors and how we perceive to the world around us.
The big challenge is that we humans do NOT have the ability to change our own subconscious beliefs by using willpower, listening to CD´s or following regular talk therapy an coaching.
The ONLY way to deliberately access the subconscious and create permanent change is HYPNOSIS.

Corona anxiety
The world can change in a flash. And it just did. When we experience situations like this, we feel that we have lost control. And when we lose control, we become anxious. All kinds of “WHAT IF” scenarios run through our mind. And understandably so. People get sick, many die! People may lose their jobs and face economic hardship. People may have to leave their homes and move. The list goes on and on. A very common reaction to the loss of control is neither fight nor flight. It is the third F - for “FREEZE”. Freezing means that when everything looks hopeless, we often become paralyzed and stuck. And therein lays the remedy. The best remedy for taking back control is to do something. Take action. Move. Move physically and look for possible solutions 24/7. Never try to go it alone. Asking other people for advice and help is something everybody can do and is often a good first step. We all want to help if we can, so use that to your advantage. And in this process, stay safe please until we are told that we can get together again.

What is the meaning of life?
We have all asked ourselves that question and not surprisingly, there is no single answer, that fully satisfies our curiosity and search for THE answer. A good, inspirational book is "The Happiness Hypothesis" by Jonathan Haidt. This book inspired me to chose my logo for Atlanta Hypnotherapy! In his book, Mr Haidt points to the importance of the question itself. Often we look for answers outside of ourselves when, in fact, we hold the answer inside ourselves. So maybe the more correct question regarding "the meaning of life" would be: How can I create meaning in my life?". A basic principle in Hypnotherapy is exactly that. We have all the resources we need to change our life and find "the meaning". Sometimes we forget that we have these resources and just need to be reminded. Also I want to share with you one of my favorite, wise words: "The PURPOSE in life is to find your gift. The MEANING of life is to share your gift with others"!! So think about this: What if the answer to the question of "meaning of life" starts with you looking inside and finding your gift? Or as the sign at the entrance to the Oracle of Delphi said: Know thyself!

New Year`s resolution
Research shows that on average a New Year`s resolution lasts only 72 hours. That is 3 days!!!! This is how long your conscious mind is able to take control of your behavior, before the habits and the urges of the subconscious take over – again!!! So as we are now approaching mid-January, whatever your New Year`s resolution was, you are now back to your normal habits and behaviors. Willpower is limited and you are back in the daily routine, running on auto-pilot, aka the Elephant. Again! The Elephant and the Rider are at odds and that is exactly what Hypnotherapy is about. Getting the conscious mind and the subconscious mind aligned, so they work together to achieve your goals. If they don`t, you will end up disappointing yourself –again! For no other reason than the fact that this is how the human mind works. Habitual behavior is delegated to the subconscious and not meant to be influenced or controlled by the conscious. Can Santa and the reindeer really fly?
Children believe what we tell them, so be careful. If you tell your child that they can never get anything right or that they are “hopeless”, their undeveloped mind will accept the idea and such beliefs stick with them and shape their entire lives. Self-limiting beliefs will prevent them from reaching their potential and they will live with anxiety and disappointment. And what do you think spanking teaches your child? That love equals pain? That they deserve punishment for being kids? That problem solving involves anger and physical violence? Please put thought into what you say and what you do to your children. And think about where and how you got your beliefs about raising your own children! Children really do believe what you tell them, either verbally or through your behavior. Believe me. I hear these stories from all of my clients! Merry Christmas!

DOCTORS ARE HERE TO HELP YOU RIGHT????
So how come many people have “white coat” anxiety? Or fear of going to the Dentist? Or fear of going to a Hypnotherapist? Keyword here is “fear”. You fear something, but you probably is not entirely sure what it is. Could be fear of discovering something physically wrong, fear of pain or fear of learning something about yourself, which you would rather not like to know…!!! The fear response then is not to go!!!! Not to go if you can get better??? Not logic right! And that is your powerful subconscious (The Elephant) for you. It doesn`t have a “logic”. It just wants to protect you. And as it controls your behavior, it has a simple solution: Don`t go. Problem solved!! Or is it? The subconscious – The Elephant – isn`t capable of looking into the future and assess consequences. It just needs to fix the problem. With a behavior!!! So I continue to smoke / over eat even if it damages my health and may even kill me? Or I do not go to the doctor and have a check-up even if I suspect something is wrong….!!! Indeed not logic. Unlocking “locked ideas” is what Hypnotherapy is all about and if you have a locked idea, which means you are not looking after your own health, I can help you very easily. Fear and anxiety are among the most frequent issues I deal with and after a few sessions the locked idea gets unlocked. Then you WANT to go to the doctor!!!

Do I need to feel guilty because I cannot stop my bad habits?
Habits are controlled by the subconscious mind – the strong Elephant. Everything that your mind doesn`t have to think about, such as your breathing, your body temperature, salivation etc. etc. is delegated to the subconscious so that you do not have to spend energy thinking about these vital functions. Often we call the subconscious the “autopilot”. Consequently, everything that is controlled by the subconscious, you cannot change “at will”. That is good – but also not so good when it comes to bad habits. Why do you continue to smoke? Why do you continue to eat more than your body needs? Why do you continue to become angry with others? These reactions are all imprinted in your subconscious and no matter how much you consciously want to change these habits, the strong subconscious mind just continues as it has learned. Then you end up feeling guilty!! And then you need more ni****ne, more food or become more anxious. The evil circle. All because the subconscious mind does what it was designed to do!!! The very good news is that changing the “locked ideas” of the subconscious mind is what Hypnotherapy is all about. (picture from Medium.com).
