Been busy. We have been doing work to not only help seniors but those with disabilities. We recently completed a job for a woman with MS, who is completely wheelchair bound. We converted her bottom floor to be totally accessible "suite" for her. We converted a portion of the garage into a bedroom with double doors and converted what was a laundry room and powder room into a bathroom with wide doorway/pocket door for easy access to the full bath. We created a shower with floor drain that is wheelchair accessible -- no barriers. We also installed new door in sitting room with ramp so that she can easily get out and enjoy the back yard.

Aging In The Comfort Of Home had a Marquee day today. Our Company name appeared about once a minute on the marquee of the Count Basie Theatre all day today along with the upcoming shows for the remainder of the year. We have been longterm supporters of the Count Basie Theatre Foundation. The theatre over the years has been totally restored and puts on many great shows. In fact recently we saw Capital Steps, on this past Thursday the annual Holiday Express benefit and on December 23rd the Hope Concert where special guest Bon Jovi will perform and most likely Bruce Springsteen will show up as we have seen at past Hope Concerts.

The Electronic Caregiver is the best medical emergency system -- it comes with a comfortable to wear, submersible wrist pendant with a 1000' range, inactivity wall sensor which sends for help if you're in trouble and can't push a button, 24/7 emergency response service manned by EMT's who stay on the line until help arrives, a medication reminder service in case they forget, you can answer your phone with the wrist pendant, and a 5 year rate guarantee. All of this for $49.99/month (That's $1.67 per day) with no money down to give you the peace of mind that someone will be there in case of emergency. The system also offers an upgrade for a little more per month such as smoke detector or CO detector with direct notification to the fire department and additional sensors or emergency buttons

In the June 12, 2015 issue of USA today an editorial appeared by Paul Singer titled "I'm just a guy trying to take care of mom" -- he stated that "For Mother's Day tho year I gave my mother an in-home care service". It is exactly what she needed to leave rehab and go home. A very interesting article including the fact that the main healthcare argument is usually about medical coverage for working age people. The real issue should be practical and not political: How are you taking care of your mother, and how are you paying for it?

In a recent article (June 14, 2015) in the Asbury Park Press titled "4 ways to ease elder care crisis. The 4 are -- (1) Expand "Take Control of Your Health programs. These are six week programs to change old habits and diets to develop healthier alternatives for those with chronic conditions. Annually only about 200 Monmouth county residents go through the program. (2) Adapt "It take a Village" Approach -- it may take a village to take care of a senior. For those who have little or no family support they have to rely on others (volunteers, friends, or county services) to help with everyday living. It states the longer seniors can stay in their homes rather than nursing homes or assisted living facilities , the less expensive it is for them and the community at large. The village can also educate them about the many available services. (3) Medicare reimbursements must rise -- a new program that began in January began making $40 payments to primary care physicians who help coordinate care for complex cases. (4) Address the shortage of healthcare providers -- due to the shortage of physicians many practitioners only spend 15 minutes with patients. The shortage is not only of physicians but also other healthcare providers

Older Americans Month 2015

Each May, the Administration for Community Living celebrates Older Americans Month to recognize older Americans for their contributions to the nation. This year, in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Older Americans Act (OAA), we are focusing on how older adults are taking charge of their health, getting engaged in their communities, and making a positive impact in the lives of others. The theme for Older Americans Month 2015 is Get into the Act.

Older Americans Month provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of community engagement as a tool for enhancing the well being of older adults. Now is the time to Get into the Act to make the benefits of community living a reality for more older Americans. Together we can promote healthy aging, increase community involvement for older adults, and tackle important issues like the prevention of elder abuse
