Serenity Stables From Combat To Calm

Serenity Stables From Combat To Calm Equine therapy supporting the psychological health & family relationships of service members, veterans and their families worldwide.

Welcome to Serenity Stables, From Combat to Calm. We are excited you are here and would love to introduce you to the benefits of Equine Therapy. The mission of the organization is to provide a center for healing and peace for veterans and those in need. There is a growing interest in equine therapy supporting the psychological health and family relationships of service members, veterans and their families worldwide. For a growing number of returning warriors, there are both invisible and visible wounds suffered from the traumas of war. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, anywhere from 11 to 20 percent of veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder. Our therapy is “collaborative, joining the efforts of licensed clinical counselors and horse professionals who work side by side with veterans and horses to address individual treatment goals.”

Horses are social in nature, respond to non-verbal communication and extremely sensitive, providing different opportunities for veterans to interact with and relate to our horses which in turn allows them to explore further the way they are coping in life. Contact us to let us know how we can help.

Ryan Colley from Boy Scout Troop 246 recently advanced to the impressive rank of Eagle Scout. 🤩

Eagle Scouts must complete service projects to earn this prestigious title. For his project, Ryan partnered with Serenity Stables From Combat To Calm (660 Kings Highway East). This local nonprofit's mission is to provide equine therapy that supports psychological health and improved quality of life to service members, veterans, and their families. 🇺🇸

As part of his project, Ryan built two hay loading trolleys and a ramp. The trolleys will facilitate the loading and transport of slow feed hay bags from the storage shed to the horses in the paddocks. He also fundraised to help cover the cost of the building materials and supplies. 🐎

Committeeman Ryan Clarke, who is also an Eagle Scout, was honored to attend the Court of Honor ceremony and present Ryan with a congratulatory certificate on behalf of the Township Committee. 👏

Our hearts are heavy as we had to say goodbye for now to one of the most devoted members of our human herd.
Dorothy Cleary was our first volunteer and quickly took a leadership role as our volunteer coordinator almost 10 years ago. Dorothy was always full of joy and not afraid of hard work.
Serenity Stables was a better place because of her, she was the essence of a true patriot! Dorothy you will be deeply missed by the horses and our team. Until we meet again my friend. May God hold you in his arms.

Winter at Serenity

A Soldier with PTSD fell into a hole and couldn’t get out. When a SNCO walked by the Soldier called out for help, but the SNCO yelled back, "Suck it up son, dig deep and drive on," then threw her a shovel. The Soldier did as she was told and dug that hole deeper.

A Senior Officer went by and the Soldier called out for help again. The Officer told her "use the tools your SNCO has given you", then threw her a bucket. The Soldier used the tools and she dug the hole deeper still and filled the bucket.

A psychiatrist walked by. The Soldier called, “Help! I can’t get out!” so the psychiatrist gave her some drugs and said, "Take this. It will relieve the pain and you will forget about the hole.” The Soldier said "thanks" and followed his advice, but when the pills ran out she was still in the hole.

A well-known psychologist rode by and heard the Soldier's cries for help. He stopped and asked, “How did you get there? Were you born there? Did your parents put you there? Tell me about yourself, it will alleviate your sense of loneliness.” So the Soldier talked with him for an hour, then the psychologist had to leave, but he said he’d be back next week. The Soldier thanked him, but she was still in the hole.

Another Soldier, just like her, happened to be passing by. The Soldier with PTSD cried out, “Hey, help me. I’m stuck in this hole!” and right away the other Soldier jumped down in there with her. The Soldier with PTSD started to panic and said, “What are you doing? Now we’re both stuck down here!” But the other Soldier just smiled and replied, “It’s okay, calm down, sister. I’ve been here before..... I know how to get out.”

No matter what you're going through, you are never alone.
