January is a good time of year to test your home for radon. If you recently picked up a free radon test, be sure to complete it soon. 🏠

Radon is a gas that can enter homes through the ground, and Iowa has some of the highest radon levels in the country. It is the second leading cause of lung cancer. Radon is invisible and odorless, so testing is the only way to detect it. All homeowners should test for radon regardless of a home’s age or location.

Please help us congratulate and recognize Cass Health Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Matt Weresh, who is retiring in May 2026.

“Dr. Weresh’s impact on orthopedic care in this region cannot be overstated. His expertise, particularly in trauma and joint replacement, has served our community exceptionally well. While we will deeply miss his contributions and dedication, we are well-prepared for this transition and excited to announce a significant expansion of our orthopedic capabilities to meet the growing needs of our patients. Thanks to Dr. Weresh pioneering the way, Cass Health will be offering our most robust orthopedic care with six 5-star professionals much like Dr. Weresh,” said Brett Altman, Chief Executive Officer at Cass Health.

Our current orthopedic surgery team, which also includes Dr. Daniel Hatz, Dr. Caliste Hsu, and Zachary Hollingsworth, PA-C, will soon expand. Cass Health recently partnered with MD West ONE, the region’s largest private practice for orthopedics, neurosurgery, and spine care. Four physicians from MD West ONE will begin practicing at Cass Health in February 2026: Dr. Todd Sekundiak, Dr. Kimberly Turman, Dr. Charles Rosipal, and Dr. Jordan Lacy.

At Cass Health, we recommend that all women have a breast cancer screening once a year beginning at age 40. It’s also important to know that you should talk to your primary care provider about your family history and unique risk factors. Based on your personal information, you may need to start screenings earlier, have additional or alternate screenings, or have certain screenings done more frequently.

It's also good to know that women between the ages 21-64 may be eligible to receive free cancer screenings including PAP tests, HPV tests, mammograms, and more. To find out more, or to enroll in these services, contact Public Health at 712-243-7551.
