JFK Medical Center Foot and Ankle Surgical Residency Program

We are a three year surgical residency with emphasis on trauma, reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery. Our residents are highly skilled and trained.

Thank you for your interest in the JFKMC Podiatric Surgical Residency Program. Our program is designed to provide comprehensive training in the specialty Podiatric Medicine and Surgery with special emphasis on Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle Surgery. We offer a wide variety of complex reconstructive foot and ankle cases and a very active trauma department. The program is fully integrated with many Orthopedic Rotations including Orthopedic Foot and Ankle, Pediatric Orthopedics, Orthopedic Sports Medicine as well as Hand and Microvascuslar surgery. The resources and expertise of over 20 years experience along with three state-of-the-art health care facilities, the JFK Medical Center, Palms West Hospital, and Wellington Regional Medical Center are behind this program. There are four outpatient surgical centers affiliated with our program, providing a wide range of foot and ankle surgical experiences. JFK Medical Center is also an affiliate of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine with active teaching programs for Internal Medicine as well as General / Vascular Surgery.

A great celebration was had for the 2024 graduation ceremony. Dr. Taylor Bergstrom and Dr. Elizabeth Connolly officially completed their three year foot and ankle surgical training. Dr Kevin Lapoff was chosen as attending of the year! A special recognition was given to Dr John Levin for being the residency director for over 30 years and his transition to retirement. He is a living legend in our field and we appreciate his commitment to surgical education for his entire professional career.

Our residents training includes thousands of surgical procedures, but everyone starts with one. Dr. Kaitlin Thompson and Dr. Josh Joseph had a Sunday morning trauma trimalleolar ankle fracture dislocation as their first. Dr. Jihae Kim took a commanding role starting her second year of residency. This is the beginning of a beautiful team.
