As Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month comes to a close, we’re reminded just how powerful early detection can be. For more than 40 years, our Cancer Center has been caring for our community, and stories like this remind us why early detection matters.

One of our colorectal cancer patients recently shared their experience with Dr. Juliet Ray:

“Dr. Ray has been an amazing care provider and surgeon. She is extremely knowledgeable and skilled, and always provided clear, direct answers to my questions. I felt truly supported every step of the way.”

They also shared this important message for anyone putting off screening:

“What you don’t know can hurt you. My tumor was right on the line between early stages. If I had waited any longer, it could have become much more advanced. Screening may not be convenient, but it could save your life.”

Colorectal cancer is now the leading cause of cancer-related death in adults under 50, yet it’s one of the most preventable cancers with routine screening.

Don’t wait. Talk to your doctor about getting screened. Early detection saves lives.

Yesterday, colleagues from HCA Florida JFK Hospital were proud to participate in a fundraiser supporting the Colorectal Cancer Alliance— helping raise critical funds for colorectal cancer research, education, and awareness.

The effort was led by colorectal surgeon Dr. Juliet Ray, who is passionate about educating the community on the importance of screening and early detection.

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and the message is more important than ever. Colorectal cancer has been steadily rising in people under 50 for years, and experts still aren’t sure why. While overall cancer deaths in the U.S. continue to decline, a new report from the American Cancer Society warns that increases in colorectal and other cancers could threaten that progress.

The good news: it is also one of the most preventable cancers. Experts recommend that screening begin at age 45 for most people at average risk. Routine screenings can detect precancerous polyps early — often preventing cancer from developing at all.

If something doesn’t feel right, listen to your body and talk with your doctor about when you should be screened. Early detection saves lives. 💙To learn more visit, https://bit.ly/4bpKver
