PBMs spread lies to protect their profits!

We mentioned this group back in January that's spreading false scare tactics that Kansas is attempting to pass a "pill tax".

"Kansas Employers for Affordable Healthcare" (KEAH) is an organization funded by two of the BIGGEST insurance companies in the country (see proof in the comments). Together, just these two companies process about half of US prescriptions through their Pharmacy Benefit Managers.

Pharmacy Benefit Managers are the companies that provide your prescription insurance, and they are almost entirely unregulated in Kansas. These companies are raising prescription costs for everyone in Kansas while simultaneously underpaying local chain and independent pharmacies. This bill will prevent this from happening by forcing these companies to shift to a payment model similar to the one used by Mark Cuban's Cost Plus Pharmacy. Other states have made similar laws and saved hundreds of millions of dollars and prevented further pharmacy closures at the same time.

Our state needs to take a stand against giant insurance companies and prevent them from continuing to raise drug costs! PLEASE SHARE THIS!

We are so grateful for the immense amount of work that has been put into this bill so far - from pharmacies closing to advocate for their patients to patients advocating for their pharmacy, this has been an incredible lift.

Tomorrow, we will urge folks to thank the senators that supported us and we will start our work on the House side - but for now, we hope everyone has the chance to take a breath tonight as the fight has just begun!

Friends of pharmacy, we need your help.

There is a lot of misinformation being spread by the lobbying group for the PBMs (pharmacy middlemen companies). They are not only claiming that the PBM reform bill is a "pill tax", but they are spamming legislators with emails from "constituents" to vote no to the pill tax.

A couple legislators have been responding to each email trying to re-educate, and have found that many of them seem to not be coming from constituents at all. Many emails are undeliverable, or the person who actually owns the email address responds, confused, because "I never emailed you. What is this about?"

We need YOU, real constituents, to email your Senator and Representative to let them know you support SB 360 and want to protect your local pharmacy from closing. We were excited to have Kansas State Senator Rick Billinger (District 40) stop by our partner store, Hill City Pharmacy today! He met with us to discuss important issues impacting our patients and our community — including PBM reform, fair pharmacy reimbursement, and improving access to care in rural Kansas.
