The Hero Journey

One of my favorite moments of our Egypt 2025 trip was to facilitate a breathwork session for my companions, in the Siwa Oasis. I had an incredible assistant named Abraham, who helped coordinate all of the supplies I needed, and even made us a morning fire- thank you my brother!

Creating one of a kind experiences for people is my passion. I can now say that I have facilitated breathwork on top of Mayan temples in the remote jungle of Guatemala, and the ancient sands of magical Egypt. I know that the attendees will treasure this moment for the rest of their lives, as will I. I look forward to the possibilities that that await.

This Holiday season, I’ve asked our members to give a testimonial about one of our Heroes. One of our first submissions was about Troy:

“Choosing one hero is not easy.... although the most obvious is Troy.  When I started coming to Hero Journey, he was polite, but stoic and very emotionally reserved. The stoic shell has been wearing away and that transformation is pretty inspiring.  It really hit home when we were planking it out and he was next to me. Despite the fact that we were all pretty drained, he quietly gave me encouragement.  Not showy or loud, just being there.  I really want to be able to do good and be there for others, and the example he sets of quiet presence and strength is something I aspire to. “

If one breathe could have the biggest positive effect on your life, what would it be? It would be the Golden Breath, or the 4/6 breath. Why? Because this breath serves three important functions:

1. Maximum O2 per inhale and CO2 per exhale

2. Stimulates your parasympathetic nervous system

3. Optimum frequency for heart and brain coherence

Just give yourself 2 minutes, breathe in your nose for 4-seconds, and exhale for 6-seconds. Enjoy your day!

The magic isn’t in “doing” anything; it’s in being. Being is in the present, where life is actually occurring, and there is nothing you can “do” to add or take away from living. Remember this.

Emotions are meant to move through you, not stay trapped within you.
Problems arise the moment you resist or suppress them. Maybe the feeling is uncomfortable. Maybe you’ve been taught it’s not appropriate. Maybe someone once told you that certain emotions make you “bad.” Whatever the reason, when you choose not to express what you feel, that energy doesn’t disappear—it lodges in your body, waiting to be seen and released.

You might think you’ve buried the emotion and moved on, but as Freud warned, “Unexpressed emotions will never die. They are buried alive and will come forth later in uglier ways.”
