Every clinician here was once a kid with big dreams. Because of the support of this community, we get to live them out every day by helping others heal. (And yes, we’ve always been this cute and this passionate)
With Tiger Giving Day coming up, your donations make it possible for us to expand eating disorder services across Alabama and continue showing up for the Auburn community in meaningful ways.

Without support from Tiger Giving Day, our clinic would not be possible. Your donations help to fund a graduate student clinician-in-training who will provide life-changing care to children and families who might otherwise go without treatment. These funds expand access to specialized services while helping train future providers who will serve Alabama and beyond. Words cannot express how appreciative we are of the community’s support! 🧡💙

Eating a variety of foods is important to keep our bodies properly nourished and allow us to grow. If a person does not eat enough variety or enough food to fuel their body’s needs, they may develop serious health problems. Avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) can occur when a person is not eating enough food to nourish their body because they are afraid of trying new foods, do not feel hungry, and/or are afraid of something bad happening after eating.

Fortunately, medical and mental health providers can help people with ARFID! Therapy services provided at the AEDC can help establish an eating schedule and encourage people to try new foods without fear. In an article written by AEDC graduate clinicians, affiliates, and supervisors, we explain what ARFID is and how it can be treated if you, or someone you know, develops it.

Will Grunewald, M.S. is doctoral candidate in the Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program at Auburn who recently began his clinical internship at the UC San Diego/San Diego VA Eating Disorder Center and Medical Behavior Unit Track. Throughout his time as a graduate clinician at the AEDC Will was able to learn and provide six different types of eating disorder treatments/interventions and was able to impact over 45 clients (roughly 450+ therapy hours). Will states, “Working at the AEDC has given me foundational skills in assessment, intervention, coordinated care and outreach within disordered eating that has been invaluable to my career. More importantly, it strengthened my passion working for this population and gave me direct opportunities to advocate for marginalized populations struggling with disordered eating”.

Will played a vital role in the formation and development of the AEDC and words cannot express how grateful we are to have had him pave the way for other graduate clinicians to come. We know you will go on to accomplish incredible things, Will!!! 🫶🏼

Taylor Stanley, M.S. is doctoral candidate in the Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program at Auburn who recently began her clinical internship at the University of Florida Health Science Center - Med/Health Track. Throughout her time as a staff member for the AEDC Taylor was able to learn and provide six different types of eating disorder treatments and was able to impact over 25 clients (roughly 300+ therapy hours). Taylor states, “Working at the AEDC has been formative in shaping my professional identity and approach to working in integrated healthcare at an academic medical center while on internship. Being an AEDC clinician not only strengthened my clinical skills in assessment, treatment planning, and intervention, but also deepened my commitment to advocacy and collaboration across disciplines”.

We are so grateful for your hard work and dedication to the AEDC and all of the clients you have served throughout the years. Best of luck Taylor, we will (and already) miss you! 🫶🏼
