Welcome to another edition of Weekly Terminology where we inform you about phrases you may hear in our office discussed with you! This week, we will be going over spinal stenosis!

Spinal stenosis happens when the spaces within the spine begin to narrow, putting pressure on the spinal cord and nerves. This often leads to pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness, commonly in the neck (cervical stenosis) or lower back (lumbar stenosis).

There are several underlying causes of spinal stenosis, including:
- Degenerative changes like osteoarthritis or disc degeneration
- Herniated discs that bulge into the spinal canal
- Thickened ligaments from long-term inflammation
- Bone spurs (osteophytes) from arthritis
- Spinal injuries or fractures
- Congenital conditions (some are born with a naturally narrow spinal canal)

In our office, we utilize X-Rays to assess and best determine the extent of the stenosis and what can be done for you as a patient.

While stenosis can’t be reversed, chiropractic care will help mitigate the symptoms and potentially resolve what caused it in the first place. Through precise spinal adjustments, soft tissue therapies, and lifestyle assessments, we aim to reduce nerve pressure, increase mobility, and ease pain without medications or surgery.

If you or someone you know is struggling with spinal stenosis symptoms, it might be time to explore a natural path to relief. Reach out to schedule a consultation! We're here to help you move better, feel better, and live better.

Welcome to another Weekly Terminology! This week we will be going over a common condition treated in our office called Carpal Tunnel Syndrome!

Are you experiencing numbness, tingling, or weakness in your hands, especially at night or after repetitive tasks like typing? You could be dealing with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). This condition occurs when the median nerve, which travels from your neck down to your hand, becomes compressed at the wrist in a narrow space called the carpal tunnel. This tunnel is surrounded by bones and ligaments, and when there's inflammation, misalignment, or repetitive strain, it can pinch the nerve, leading to pain, tingling, and even muscle weakness.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is often caused by repetitive hand motions, poor ergonomics, wrist injuries, or even nerve irritation that starts in the neck or shoulder. That’s why treating just the wrist often isn’t enough. At Nadeau Chiropractic Associates, we take a whole-body approach. Our chiropractic care focuses on correcting misalignments not only in the wrist, but also along the entire nerve pathway from the neck to the hand. Many times, carpal tunnel is misdiagnosed and the true problem is somewhere along the pathway. We provide gentle adjustments to restore proper joint motion, reduce nerve interference, and relieve tension. We also offer guidance, ergonomic tips, and information to support long-term healing and prevention.

If hand or wrist pain is interfering with your daily life, don’t wait. Chiropractic care may be the natural, drug-free solution you’ve been looking for. Call us today to schedule your consultation! We’re here to help you feel and function better!

Welcome to another Weekly Terminology post where we discuss common terms used in our office! This week, we will be going over sciatica!

Sciatica is a condition characterized by pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower back, through the hips and buttocks, and down each leg. It's often caused by compression or irritation of the nerve, typically from a herniated disc, spinal misalignment, or narrowing of the spine (spinal stenosis). Common symptoms include sharp, shooting pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness in the leg, and the discomfort can range from mild to debilitating. If you're experiencing persistent lower back pain that radiates into your leg, or if the pain worsens with sitting or certain movements, it's time to have it assessed.

At Nadeau Chiropractic Associates, we specialize in identifying the root cause of your sciatica through thorough evaluation and precise spinal adjustments. Unlike temporary fixes like medication, our approach targets the source of nerve compression to relieve pressure and restore proper function. Chiropractic care is a non-invasive, drug-free solution that promotes natural healing and long-term relief. If you're ready to get to the bottom of your sciatica and get back to living pain-free, our office is exactly where you need to be.

Welcome back to our Weekly Terminology segment where we discuss common vocabulary and conditions you may hear us talk about in our office regarding your care! This week, we will be going over vertigo!

Vertigo is a sensation where you feel like you or your surroundings are spinning or moving, even when there’s no actual movement. It’s more intense than regular dizziness and can cause a strong sense of imbalance. The most common cause of vertigo is inner ear problems. These include conditions like BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo), where tiny crystals in the inner ear become dislodged and interfere with balance; vestibular neuritis or labyrinthitis, which are infections that inflame the inner ear; and Meniere’s disease, which involves fluid buildup in the ear that causes pressure and vertigo. Other causes include neck issues (known as cervicogenic vertigo), head injuries or whiplash, and even migraines, which can produce vertigo symptoms in some people.

Chiropractic care may be helpful in managing vertigo, particularly when it’s related to spinal misalignment, neck tension, or BPPV. Chiropractors often use spinal adjustments to correct misalignments in the neck that may be affecting nerve function and balance. For BPPV, some chiropractors are trained in the Epley maneuver, a specific sequence of head movements that helps reposition the displaced crystals in the inner ear. In addition, soft tissue therapy, including massage and stretching, can reduce muscle tension and improve circulation, especially after injuries like whiplash. Chiropractors may also recommend postural corrections and balance exercises to improve coordination and reduce recurring symptoms.

As always, check in weekly for more education on certain conditions!

Welcome to another week of Thursday Terminology where we discuss vocabulary and phrases you may hear in our office in regards to the best direction for your health!

This week we will be talking about orthotics!

Foot orthotics are custom-made shoe inserts designed to support and align the feet, helping to improve posture, balance, and overall body mechanics. They are commonly used to address issues such as plantar fasciitis, flat feet, heel pain, and lower back pain, by redistributing pressure and correcting structural imbalances.

At our office, we use Foot Levelers orthotics—trusted for their high-quality, custom-made solutions that support all three arches of the foot. These orthotics not only help relieve foot pain but can also improve function throughout the entire body, enhancing mobility, comfort, and long-term wellness.

We will be back next week with another update for you all!

Hey everyone! Welcome to Thursday Terminology!

We wanted to go over some words and phrases that you may hear in our chiropractic office when discussing your health with us to give you a better understanding of what you may be experiencing!

This weeks term is Disc Degeneration and/or Degenerative Disc

Firstly, a Vertebral Spine Disc is located between the bones of the spine. A normal spinal disc is like a cushion between your vertebrae. It’s soft and gel-like in the center, with a tough outer layer, and it helps absorb shock, keep the spine flexible, and maintain proper spacing between bones.

A narrowed disc (also called disc thinning or disc degeneration) means that cushion has lost height or hydration. This thinning reduces the space between vertebrae, limits movement, and can cause pain or nerve pressure. Degenerative discs often develop from natural aging, but other factors like poor posture, repetitive stress, smoking, obesity, or injury can accelerate the breakdown. Imagine a healthy disc like a full, bouncy sponge—when it dries out or flattens, it can’t protect the spine as well, leading to stiffness and discomfort.

If left unchecked or untreated, a fully degenerative disc can eventually lead to the body forming bone where there should not be which will further limit mobility and increase pain and sensation even into areas such as the leg or arms depending on where it is occurring.

The only way to see a degenerative disc is to have imaging done. X-ray is what we use in our office to give us as providers a good understanding of where your body is currently and how much our care will benefit you. Without the image, it is impossible to tell the extent of changes that have taken place.

We hope this gives you a good understanding of Disc Degeneration! Be on the lookout for more terminology we will be sharing!

There is expected to be some record heat this week! Do your best to stay in the shade and out of the heat!

As the summer heat intensifies, many people don’t realize the toll it can take on their bodies — especially their spine and nervous system. High temperatures can lead to dehydration, muscle fatigue, poor posture from physical exhaustion, and even increased inflammation. All of these factors can cause added strain on your body. That’s where chiropractic care comes in. Regular adjustments can help improve spinal function, reduce stress on the nervous system, and enhance circulation, which supports your body’s natural cooling and recovery processes. Chiropractic care also helps muscles relax, improves joint mobility, and can boost your energy levels — so you feel better equipped to handle long, hot days. Combined with staying hydrated and taking breaks from direct sun exposure, chiropractic treatment can be a key part of your summer wellness routine.

Don’t let the heat wear you down — stay adjusted, stay energized, and enjoy the season to the fullest. Call us today to schedule your next appointment!
