Welcome to the office of Dr. Thomas Bauer! We look forward to meeting you and/or your child and want to make visits to our office comfortable and rewarding experiences. Our goals are to treat all patients as we ourselves would like to be treated and do our utmost to provide quality care. We strive to be versed in the latest technology and attend many continuing educations courses to stay current. Our friendly staff is well trained and many have had orthodontic treatment or have had children who received orthodontic treatment in this office. This reaffirms his dedication to upholding the highest standards in orthodontics and staying current with the latest advances in the field.

According to a 2023 study by Kravitz et al., 17.2% of clear aligner patients had to switch to braces to achieve adequate results (in our office, I would put that number at 20-30%). The average clear aligner treatment plan required 2.5 revisions to achieve adequate results, which means that half the time, patients went through the process three times. Oh and by the way, the average clear aligner treatment time went more than 5 months longer than expected.

Clear aligners have their place in orthodontics. After all, we offer them at Androscoggin Orthodontics! But before we start wrapping little blue gift boxes of aligners for you, it's good to get sound advice on whether they will work for you!

P.S. we make them ourselves to control costs, so if you do need to make the switch to braces, we won't upcharge you for it.😀

We are used to seeing a surge of broken braces after Halloween and Christmas, but jeezum! This year we've seen a bunch!

Please remember the dietary restrictions we have in place when in treatment:

BAD: gum!!!
WORSE: hard, crunchy, sticky, chewy foods
WORST: we'll let you guess...just don't take your braces for granite!🤣

We don't think it is worth the risk or hassle for patients to come in tomorrow, so for your safety we will be closed on Monday.

After several years of equipment upgrades and facility remodeling, we have a modern and professional clinic that you will enjoy coming back to for your appointments!

Dear Patients and Families,

As early as next week, we will have a contractor finishing the siding on the outside of the building! It's been a long time coming, because as many of you know, it's not easy to get a contractor these days! I'm sure this work will be noisy and disruptive, so thank you for your understanding.

Additionally, we will have a separate contractor finishing the interior of the entryway. Although the interior work will not be performed during patient care, you may find that there is fully assembled staging to avoid when you arrive at your appointment!

I want to thank my kids for being my weekend helpers! Maddy always served as a counterweight when I hoisted the windows up (kind of like a belay system), and Hayden helped a lot with installation and clean up. Additionally, I would not have been able to put the right window in (high off the ground) without the help of Dr. Tom Pastor at Wilson Stream Family Dentistry! Thank you Dr. Pastor!😃

Thank you to our Western Maine patients for your support these past ten years!

Unfortunately, I have decided that Androscoggin Orthodontics will no longer be travelling to Norway after August of this year. We will continue to work in Auburn as usual.

When we first moved to Maine, I used to underestimate the impact of snowstorms. Not anymore! It's just not worth the risk driving in it.
