As the holiday season draws near, it’s the perfect time to check in with family and loved ones about Diabetes Awareness. In Nebraska, 1 in 10 adults have been told they have diabetes.
Let’s use this season of gathering to talk openly. Ask, “How are you doing with your health?” or “Shall we take a walk together?” Small conversations can lead to a big impact.
This season isn’t just about food and festivities it’s about looking out for one another.
Here’s to community, health, and caring for each other across our Nebraska communities.

DHHS is closely monitoring the infant botulism outbreak linked to ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula.

While no cases have been reported in Nebraska, parents and caregivers are urged to immediately stop using ALL ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula products. This formula was distributed in stores and online at Walmart, Target, Baker's, Safeway, and Whole Foods Market.

Parents and caregivers, watch for these warning signs in infants:
⚠️ Difficulty sucking or swallowing during feedings
⚠️ Poor feedings
⚠️ Loss of head control
⚠️ Decreased facial expression
⚠️ Weak or altered cry
⚠️ Loss of muscle tone

If your baby shows any of these symptoms, seek immediate medical care. Infant botulism can lead to serious complications, including breathing difficulties and hospitalization.

As a safety precaution, wash and sanitize items and surfaces that may have contacted the recalled formula.

Have you had a health screening? Screenings help find problems early when they may be easier to treat. Using only a finger prick we can determine your numbers in a short time.
Diabetes: People with family history, who have gestational diabetes or who are overweight should be screened. Lifestyle modifications such as weight loss, healthy eating, and physical activity are ways to prevent diabetes. People with diabetes are at an increased risk for high cholesterol and heart disease.
High Blood Pressure: Staying active and eating a healthy diet can minimize high blood pressure. A family history of heart disease or stroke may warrant more frequent screenings.
If you have too much cholesterol in your body, it can build up inside your blood vessels and make it hard for blood to flow through them. Over time, this can lead to heart disease. Know your numbers.
You will get your results immediately and have a copy to share with your provider.
