Eating that’s driven by craving, not need, happens every day. It's called hedonic eating.

When you eat something delicious, dopamine releases in proportion to the pleasure you feel. The more palatable the food, the longer your brain says keep going. And the foods most likely in the mix tend to be ultra-processed, hyper-palatable snacks engineered for exactly this response.

Your hunger hormones make it worse. Ghrelin—the hormone that signals hunger—amplifies your brain's reward response to food. Stress and poor sleep don’t help.

The reset: regular breaks from eating recalibrate your hunger hormones and quiet the noise.
