In Georgia, increased Medicaid funding for Private Duty Nursing has helped strengthen access to this essential care, allowing children with complex medical needs to spend less time in the hospital and more time at home with their families.

Thirteen-year-old Brylee is home for the holidays with her family, with the support that Private Duty Nursing provides.

Brylee's mom, Marisa, said, “I’m deeply grateful for the PDN nursing support we receive for my daughter. Having a nurse during the day gives me the ability to stay focused on work while also cherishing those special mother-daughter moments—without the constant demands of caregiving.”

Georgia’s recent PDN rate increase has improved care stability. According to Marisa, “Since the Georgia rate increase, Brylee’s nursing care has become more consistent and effective, with more experienced RNs now providing steady and reliable hours.”

Sustained investment in PDN is essential to maintaining a stable nursing workforce and keeping children with medical complexities safely at home year-round. Thank you, Governor Kemp, GA legislators, and the GA Department of Community Health!

After spending 163 days in the hospital, Kayden is now home with his family with the support of skilled in-home nursing care, just in time for the holiday season.

To safely discharge from the hospital and remain at home, Kayden required continuous, hands-on skilled care to manage his gastrostomy tube and central line.

Access to skilled in-home nursing care is essential for pediatric patients across Georgia, enabling children with medical complexities to receive appropriate care in the home setting and allowing families to remain together at home throughout the year.

Thank you Governor Kemp, Georgia legislators, and the Department of Community Health for funding and supporting in-home skilled nursing!

August was born with cystic fibrosis and spent the first ten months of her life in the hospital fighting for each breath. After receiving a G-tube, trach, and vent, Auggie needed nursing care and medical supplies to make her homecoming possible. That’s when the local Aveanna team came to her rescue.

Auggie was discharged from the hospital just before Thanksgiving, and Aveanna was right there to welcome her. Her parents and big sister were overjoyed, and Auggie couldn’t contain her excitement – bouncing in her chair and grinning at everyone until she finally wiped out, exhausted by the best day ever.
