For the last year, Phyllis has said she looks forward to the few moments of fame that come with turning 100. Donning a tiara and sash, she is excited to celebrate her milestone birthday surrounded by loved ones who have meant so much to her throughout her life.
Phyllis was amazed by the turnout for her 100th birthday celebration, sharing that she thought the cold weather might keep people at home. She said she learned to tolerate all kinds of weather during her years as a school crossing guard in Fall Creek, a role she held for more than a decade. Phyllis believes that job is how she came to know so many people in the community. Many of the children she once helped safely cross the street were in attendance—now grown adults, celebrating with their own families.
Now residing at Augusta Health and Rehabilitation, Phyllis continues to share her stories and sharp wit with those around her. When asked the secret to a long life, she laughed and said she was a farmer’s wife who worked right alongside her husband, “shoveling the dirty stuff” together. Still sharp as a tack at 100 years old, Phyllis jokingly credits her quick wit to “a nightly snort of brandy,” delivered with a wink and a wonderful sense of humor.
Phyllis Strauch, a lifelong resident of Fall Creek, turned 100 years old.

We’re excited to highlight Kevin N. from our Environmental Services team! Kevin has been with us for 2 years, and he brings a steady, hardworking, and down-to-earth presence to our facility each day.
Kevin came to Augusta Health & Rehab in search of a less stressful pace, and along the way discovered a place that feels like home. Outside of work, he’s a hands-on guy who enjoys woodworking, carpentry, hunting, fishing, gardening, spending time with animals, and even wrenching on his beloved 1999 Ford F-250.
Thank you for all you do, Kevin!
