That's why – alongside the Mabel Wadsworth Center, Maine Doula Coalition, and SAFE Maine – we’re hosting a free community event on Thursday, April 23rd from 5:30–7:00 PM.

We applaud our legislators for seizing the opportunity to provide $5 million annually in Maine’s state budget for family planning. The Maine legislature’s action is a wise, durable investment in the name of Maine’s public health.

The reality is, Maine's reproductive care network and the services we provide have been underfunded and under attack for decades. A more robust state partnership in funding essential health care has been sorely needed, and the ongoing barrage of attacks from the federal level intensifies the urgency.

These family planning funds will help ensure Mainers, especially in rural parts of the state, have increased access to the confidential, high-quality health care they need and deserve.

Next Steps: Appropriators will close the budget and send it to the House for a vote. If the House passes it, the budget bill will be sent to the Senate. If the Senate approves, it will be sent to the Governor and, if the Governor signs, it becomes law 90 days after the Legislature adjourns.

Reproductive health care is so much more than one service or one visit. In 2025 alone, we administered 19,820 STI tests, 3,704 HIV tests, and 2,473 cervical cancer screenings — the kind of preventive care that catches problems early, keeps people healthy, and simply isn't available everywhere in our state.
For many Mainers, especially those in rural communities, we are the only place they can access this care. That's not something we take lightly. ❤️‍🔥
