We're happy to introduce the 2026 officers for the Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) and the Sports Medicine Interest Group (SMIG). These student led groups provide a space to educate students about Family Medicine through education, social events, and mentorship.

“This award is proof that NIH values community-led partnerships and recognizes our partnership between the HUB for Community Innovation and the Medical College of Georgia as a national exemplar.”

In partnership with the Hub for Community Innovation Augusta and the Department of Family and Community Medicine, the project COACHS was one of five winners in the NIH Build UP Trust Challenge.

The NIH Build UP Trust Challenge honors innovative, community-driven approaches that increase trustworthiness in research among historically underrepresented and underserved populations. COACHS was designed to improve community health through increased reach of healthcare services, improve coordination of community services, and strengthen trust between the community and healthcare system.

Dr. Jessica Britt-Thomas is the department's Director for Integrated Behavioral Health, and co-investigator on a new study targeting insomnia and depression symptoms. The Assessing Improvements in Mood and Sleep, or AIMS, Trial, will use forms of psychotherapy to change certain patterns and behaviors, instead of medications.
