The Reverend Lou Scales

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7. On March 12, 2026, Louie G. Scales, Jr. went home to be with his Lord. He was born on July 25, 1947, in Alexandria, Alabama.
The memorial service to honor Lou’s life and ministry will be March 21st at 3pm, at Our Savior Episcopal Church, 4227 Columbia Rd, Martinez, GA. Reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to your church or the Jesse Norman School of the Arts, 739 Greene St, Augusta, GA 30901.
Lou is pre-deceased by his parents, Lou and Carolyn Scales, and daughters, Shay and Leah. His memory will live on with his beloved wife, Linda, his son, Jon Scales (Meg Mathis), daughter Jennifer (David) Quebedeaux, and daughter Gelene (Dan) Tabor, grandchildren: Daniel Tabor (Jennifer McGibbon), Sharon Tabor, Timothy (Liz) Tabor, Ryan (Deborah) Tabor, Meaghan (Dan) Ruff, and Rex Cooper-Bryan (Kaily Short), and 21 great-grandchildren.
Lou began his ministry in a small Methodist church, and in 1976 he joined the Army as a chaplain. He considered the military chaplaincy a chance to reach young adults. “When they get into the Army, they run into real life, and it’s a wonderful opportunity to be part of their faith development,” he said.
Lou converted from the Methodist denomination to the Episcopal church in 1992. In the Army, his assignments included three tours in Germany, as well as the National Training Center in Ft. Irwin, CA and the Pentagon. He believed in ministering to soldiers where they worked and served and said, “I established relationships I still have with people.”
His education includes a BA from Birmingham-Southern College, a Master of Divinity from Emory University, a Certificate in Clinical Pastoral Education from Central State Hospital in Milledgeville, GA, a Master in Education from Boston University, and a Master in Theology from Princeton Seminary.
After retirement from the Army, Lou served as the Assistant Rector at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Augusta, GA and Rector at Our Savior Episcopal Church in Martinez, GA.
He and his beloved wife, Linda, served together in the many churches and communities he touched. They also shared a love of travel, exploring the world from Morocco to East Berlin and hundreds of points in-between. He was an avid golfer, a loyal fan of Alabama football and Braves baseball.

Mark Wayne Wescott, age 65, of Keysville, Georgia, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.
A Celebration of Life will be held at McBean Baptist Church located at 4457 GA-56, Waynesboro, GA 30830, on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 11:00am.
Mark was born in Binghamton, New York, to Virgil “Slim” and Zelma “Betty” Wescott. Mark always wanted to care for and protect people, so in 1979 he enlisted in the United States Air Force. While enlisted, he studied Medicine, earned a master’s degree and became a Physician’s Assistant (P.A.). He retired from the United States Air Force after 22 years of dedicated service to his country.
Mark loved God, his family, and his church; you could find him reading his Bible every morning at the dining room table. Mark was a sports fanatic; depending on the season, you could be sure he would be watching a game: Georgia football, golf, UFC fights, among others. He especially loved NASCAR; he was a fan for life. Every Sunday, you could find him at church in the morning, and then you would find him in his recliner watching the race. If there was not a game on for him to watch, you could find him dabbling with his hobbies of reading, building airplane models, or at a motorcycle event.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents, Virgil “Slim” and Zelma “Betty” Wescott; sisters Sandra Wescott, Alberta Wescott, and Bernice Wescott.
He is survived by his significant other, Kimberly Wescott; son Michael Justin Wescott, stepdaughters Annie Pritchard Russell (Michael Pritchard), Amanda Russell; grandchildren Sophie Wescott, Jackson Wescott, Shelby Russell, and Michael Pritchard, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the https://www.cff.org/, as a remembrance of his reasoning for becoming a Physician Assistant.

Eugene Mosley, born March 13, 1950, in Emanuel County, Georgia, passed away at PruittHealth–Creekside after a short illness. Eugene was a lifelong Georgian whose warmth, humor, and infectious personality left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Eugene is survived by his devoted older sister, Novella (Charles) Blackburn; his older brother, Rufus Mosley; his niece, Joanne (James “Butch”) Reese; his nephews, Scott (Stanalee) Blackburn and Tony Blackburn (Luz Gonzalez); his great-niece, Amanda (Allen) Wingate; his great-nephews, Richard Blackburn, Chad Blackburn, and Kenneth (Autumn) Cabell; his great-great nieces, Emmabelle Wingate and Anastasia Cabell; and his special friends, Wally and TP. He treasured his family and friends deeply and delighted in every opportunity to gather, laugh, and share stories.
Eugene attended Tubman Junior High School and graduated in 1969 from the special education program at Richmond Academy. During his school years, he proudly rode the bus with the football team and the band to games—experiences he remembered with joy. He later began attending Georgia TASC and residential programs through Serenity Behavioral Health Systems.
A faithful and active member of Lake Park Baptist Church, Eugene was especially close to the church’s Deacons—Dwayne McIntosh, Steve Dent, Bill Knippenberg, Don Wyatt, Larry Royal, and Tommy Mansfield. He deeply loved Steve Dent’s Sunday School class and cherished his church family. Eugene had a passion for baseball, cheering on the Atlanta Braves, and he was an enthusiastic supporter of the Georgia Bulldogs. He enjoyed staying informed and had a genuine curiosity about life and the world around him.
Eugene will be remembered for his joyful spirit, his love of conversation, and the way he made others feel welcome and valued. He was, in every sense of the phrase, a “good egg.” His laughter, kindness, and unwavering enthusiasm for life will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.

Eugene’s life was a testament to the power of joy, faith, family, and community. A celebration of life is scheduled for Friday, February 27, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Chance & Hydrick Chapel.

Mrs. Pittman was the beloved daughter of the late Reverend David Earl Pittman Sr. and the late Inez R. Cobb Pittman, whose unconditional love and guidance shaped her life. Born in Augusta, Georgia, she was a loving friend to all who crossed her path, always offering a warm welcome and a heartfelt embrace with a huge smile. She was an avid member of the church and lived her life for Jesus through faithful service to others. She lovingly helped care for her grandchildren and great grandchildren in their younger years, leaving them with cherished memories of her love and devotion. An artist at heart, Mrs. Pittman expressed her creativity through beautiful works she created to share, sell or give away, and she delighted in encouraging others to discover their own artistic gifts. She especially loved working with children — teaching Vacation Bible school, leading art classes, and nurturing confidence and creativity, in young hearts. Her passion for service led her on mission trips, where she joyfully helped those in need while sharing the message of the Gospel.
Mrs. Pittman is survived by her three children, Julie Anderson, Lisa Lee, David Lee (Janelle); her grandchildren, Kiefer Anderson, Summer Welcher, Taylor Ingraham, Blake Lee, Avery Lee; her great grandchildren, Aiden, Skylar, Haven; her two brothers, David Pittman Jr. (Marinell), John Pittman (Yi Ling); her cousin, Lynn Weathersbee; and numerous other cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Pittman is preceded in death by her parents, the Reverend David & Mrs. Inez Pittman; her brother, Warren Pittman; and her son Steven C. Anderson.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all that cared for her during her long battle with cancer, especially Dr. Zaman, Dr. Parikh and Dr. Davis and many more over the years. Mrs Pittman recently made many special friends, including two nurses Noemi and Toni. Also, the ladies of the Little Red Foxx Shoppe, Amber, Suzanne and Vicki. The members of Warren Belvedere Church have blessed Mrs. Pittman, not just over the years with love and care, but especially over the last several months. Thank you to each one for the prayers and worship and wonderful meals provided. Mrs. Pittman was blessed to be led to Hospice of SC, where Mrs Sherri Stinson placed the most amazing and loving care team to help her through her final transition; Judi, Adrienne, Alaya and Keila.
Mrs. Pittman was deeply loved by all and will truly be missed though we know she is safe in the arms of Jesus. A life well lived is a life never forgotten.
In leu of flowers, donations may be made to The Wellstar Foundation, for local community support and cancer research.

Thomson, GA – Dorothy “Dot” Cofer, 88, loving wife to Wendell Cofer entered into rest on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at Thomson First Methodist Church, Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 2:30 PM with Reverend Dr. Steve Dodson officiating.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 1:30 until the hour of the service.
Mrs. Cofer, daughter of the late Charles Hamlin Tappan Jr. and the late Dorothy Florence Stone Tappan, was born in Athens, GA. Mrs. Cofer began her career as a University of Georgia Extension Agent in 1960, assigned to Burke County, GA where she worked with the 4-H Club program and Home Demonstration Clubs. After marriage to Bennie Fulcher, she moved to Troy and Carthage, N.C. when her husband began a career with the North Carolina Extension Service. While living in Carthage, Mrs. Cofer taught special home economics classes during the summer at Piedmont Community College. Upon moving back to Georgia and particularly to McDuffie County, she became the Extension Service Home Economist from 1969 until her retirement in 1996.
Among her many proud career achievements, one of the biggest was her annual McDuffie County Health Fair, on average coordinating almost 200 volunteers serving between 500 and 700 participants each year for 42 years. Many participants traveled from neighboring states to attend. In 1991 the World Health Organization recognized her Health Fair as the top health fair in the country and sent her to a WHO conference in San Francisco, California that year.
Mrs. Cofer was an influential leader of her community due to her numerous volunteer positions. Working with the local Gideon and Gideon Auxiliary gave her many opportunities to show her faith to the community. She was also involved in special projects of her church, Thomson First Methodist, where she was a member.
Her heart and love were the medical missions that were part of the church’s Honduras yearly mission program. She and her team conducted a “mini–Health Fair” in communities without medical services, which ran for a consecutive 14 years, being medical group leader for several years. She served numerous years on the Thomson First Methodist Church Council on the health and welfare committee. One of her joys was working with her church’s Medical Mission seeing McDuffie clientele in need of health services.
Though her main career focus was on her Extension Service career, she was also active with teaching DNR Hunter Safety Courses, was on the McDuffie Expo committee, Thomsons’s Olympic Celebration committee, and substitute teaching at Thomson High, working with Communities in schools, and making wedding cakes.
Mrs. Cofer received numerous awards and recognition throughout her years in Thomson, including being chosen as a community leader to carry the Olympic Torch through Thomson. This honor was due in part to the fact that she saved the life of a child at Clark’s Hill Lake. The American Cancer Society honored her for her contribution of over 10 years as Area Educator for the AC Society.
In addition to her loving husband of 42 years, she is survived by her son, David Fulcher and her daughter, Rhonwyn Fulcher.
Pallbearers include Terry Josey, Jimmy Crawley, Mike Reville, Tim McCorkle, Chess McCorkle.
Honorary pallbearers include former 4-H members and Gideons.
If so desired, memorials may be made to https://georgia4hfoundation.org/dorothy-cofer/
