Celebrating the Life of Dorothy Lucky Cooper
November 10, 1934 – April 12, 2026
Dorothy Lucky Cooper, a woman of profound faith and resilience, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on April 12, 2026. She passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by the warmth of the family and friends she spent her life cherishing.
Funeral services will be held from Calvary Baptist Church on Friday, April 17, 2026 at 2:00 o'clock with Dr. DWayne Carter Officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Joe W. Faulk III, Joseph W. Faulk, IV, Terrell Yelverton, Justin M. Graham, Kurt H. Lingenfelser, and Roger Loveridge.
A Life of Faith and Service
Born at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia, to the late Romie and Elnora Key Lucky, Dorothy’s journey of faith began early. At the age of 13, during a revival at Olive Road Assembly of God, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior—a decision that became the cornerstone of her life. As a devoted member of Pine Hill Baptist Church, she found great joy and community within her beloved Sunday School class.
In her youth, Dorothy’s beautiful soprano voice was a gift she shared with the community.
Alongside her sister, Lucille, and Aunt Janelle, she performed in a singing group called The Faith Trio. Together, they traveled to churches, schools, and local competitions, filling auditoriums with their beautiful harmonies and sharing their love for the Lord.
Dorothy was a proud graduate of the Hephzibah High School Class of 1953. Her professional life was defined by her "helper’s heart." She began as a Long Distance Operator for Southern Bell before following a calling into nursing. After earning her Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) diploma from Augusta Technical College in 1978, she began her career at Gracewood State School and Hospital, where her dedication led her to eventually serve as a supervisor.
Later, she worked in the University Hospital nursery, where she cherished the task of giving newborns their very first baths, and spent 13 years as a dedicated nurse for pediatrician Dr. W.A. Wilkes, where she was a comforting presence to countless children and parents.
A Legacy of Strength
On October 16, 1953, Dorothy married the love of her life, Marcus Cooper. Together, they shared 44 years of marriage and a bond that withstood the tests of time. Dorothy was a woman of remarkable strength; she was a breast cancer survivor and defied the odds, overcoming a life-threatening pressure injury that required months of grueling rehabilitation. By the grace of God and her own fierce determination, she regained her independence, eventually returning to the simple joys of driving herself to the grocery store and her weekly hair appointments.

The Ultimate Caregiver
Dorothy was known for her quick wit, her contagious laugh, and a refreshingly honest perspective. You could always count on her for the truth—whether it was a word of wisdom or a definitive ruling on who made the best pie at the family gathering.
Dorothy was the "ultimate caregiver," selflessly supporting her daughter Patty through many trials and raising her grandson, Justin, as her own. Her home was a sanctuary of hospitality, marked by the aroma of her amazing cooking and a welcome that made everyone feel like family. The annual trips to Chesterfield Inn at Myrtle Beach are among the most cherished memories her family will forever hold dear, and Dorothy captured nearly every moment of fun on her large shoulder-mounted video camera.

Family
Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marcus Cooper; her two daughters, Debbie Cooper Faulk and Patty Charlene Cooper; her brother, J.E. Lucky; and her sister, Alma Lucky.
Her legacy of love is carried on by those who survive her:
● Her Sister: Lucille Loveridge.
● Her Son-in-law: Joe W. Faulk III.
● Grandchildren: Justin Marcus Graham and his wife, Brittany.
○ Rebekah Faulk Lingenfelser and her husband, Kurt.
○ Joseph W. Faulk IV and his wife, Sarah.

● Great-Grandchildren: Lydia, Hannah, Julia Hope, Moriah, and Josiah.
● A host of extended family and dear friends.
"Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all." — Proverbs 31:28-29
Dorothy Lucky Cooper lived a life that honored her Savior in every season. While she will be deeply missed, her family finds peace in knowing she is fully restored, singing in a heavenly choir, and reunited with her loved ones in her eternal home.

Hughette Strickland Rice, a woman of grace and boundless love for her family, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2026—just three days after celebrating her 81st birthday. Born in Augusta, Georgia, on April 5, 1945, to Mary Alice Currence, Hughette spent her life being the heart of the home and the people she loved.

For 59 beautiful years, Hughette was the cherished wife of Grady Carson Rice of Hephzibah, Georgia. Theirs was a true partnership; Hughette was an integral part of Grady’s many businesses, serving by his side in every capacity needed with steady support and a shared vision. She often reminisced fondly of their early years traveling the country together while Grady worked for Texaco—adventures she held dear even after they settled back in Augusta to raise their family.

Honoring her memory are her four children: Wayne Rice (Tabitha), Laura Henning (Randy), Marlene Coates (Tony), and Bryan Rice (Jennifer). To her grandchildren, she was their beloved “Nana.” Sarah, Shelby, Ashlyn, Matthew, Bryson, JT (Kristen), and Jaycey Ray (Nathan) were her pride and joy, as were her great-grandchildren, Jax and Rosalie.

Hughette’s warmth extended to all creatures, and her home was never truly empty. She was a devoted "mom" to her faithful fur baby, Jack, who remained her constant and loving companion until the end. She leaves behind a legacy of enduring partnership, quiet strength, and a family who will miss her every day.

Service Information:
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Hughette’s life on Tuesday, April 14th, at 3:00 PM at Chance and Hydrick Funeral Home in Augusta, GA. Graveside services will follow at 4:00 PM at Hillcrest Cemetery.

04/02/2026

Christina Lynne White, age 74, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026. She was born on April 21, 1951, in Cairo, Illinois, and spent her childhood in Charleston, Missouri.
She later made her home in San Antonio, Texas, where she spent the majority of her adult life. It was there that she met and married John T. White, and together they built a life together over many years. She worked as a second grade teacher at Randolph Elementary School, where she not only shaped the lives of her students but also formed lifelong friendships with fellow teachers who became like family. She was part of a close-knit group of women who shared years of bunco, brunches, trips, and a lifetime of love and laughter.
She was known for her beautiful, infectious smile and her generous and giving nature. She had a way of making everyone feel like they were the most important person in the room and found joy in bringing people together, creating spaces where people felt comfortable, welcomed, and cared for.
Her laugh was one of a kind. It could fill a room, and she had a playful, silly side that brought light to any moment. When she was playing games, winning or losing, she always had a goofy face to match. Even in stressful moments, she had a way of making others smile and easing the tension. She would greet people with a cheerful, singsong “good morning!” or “hello!” when answering the phone, a small but memorable reflection of the warmth she carried into everyday moments.
She loved everyone’s children as if they were her own. Whether it was writing letters of encouragement, showing up in support, or simply being present, she made people feel like they belonged.
She gave quietly and selflessly, never seeking recognition or the spotlight, and never expecting anything in return. She was forgiving, kind, gracious, and loving, a true example of what love looks like.
She was also incredibly strong and resilient, able to carry more than most while still showing up with love and grace for the people around her.
Christmas was her favorite time of year, and she made sure everyone around her felt that same joy and magic. The living room would be filled with presents, more than you could imagine, and she always had extra gifts set aside. She kept a dresser full of cards for every moment in life, always ready to celebrate, comfort, or remind someone they were loved.
Her chicken and dumplings were a Butler family staple, always made with love and something everyone looked forward to. Cooking was one of the many ways she expressed care for the people around her.
She had a gift for making people feel like they belonged, embracing both family and those who became family to her.
That love extended deeply to her nieces and nephews, especially those she spent years close to. Shanna Stringer and her husband, Marty, were a meaningful part of her everyday life for many years, sharing dinners, games, and celebrations together. Shanna’s children, Kya and Kaden, were deeply loved by her, and she treasured the time she spent with them.
In late 2025 she and John moved to Martinez, Georgia to a house just down the street from her grandchildren. To them, she will always be remembered in the little moments that meant so much. Kiko thinks of her smile. CJ remembers baking cookies with her at Christmas. And they both remember the many times she took them to the park. Haysel remembers her love most of all, and said she never once questioned how much she was loved by her Nanny. She created memories that will stay with her grandchildren forever.
To her family, she was the one they called. She was always there to share in every moment, whether joyful or difficult, offering love, support, and presence without hesitation.
She was deeply loved, and her absence will be felt in ways that words cannot fully express.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mea Lou Carr Butler and J.B. Butler; her son, Jimmy White; her brothers, Jimmy Butler and Dennis Butler; and her niece, Dana Brown Partaker.
She is survived by her husband, John T. White; her daughters, Ashley St. Clair (Cat) and Daiquiri Fennell (Don); her grandchildren, Heather, Joshua, Johnathan, Haysel, CJ, and Kiko; her great-grandchildren, Brianna, Jammie, Landon, Raven and Emma; her siblings, Cathy Brown, Scotty Butler (Kathleen), Kevin Butler (Donna), Kelly Butler (Angelia), Shannon Butler, and sister-in-law, Pat Butler; Teresa Biasi; and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
A party to celebrate her life will be held at a later date this summer.
