This year’s Love Shouldn't Hurt event was genuinely impactful and uplifting. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to our community partner Jessye Norman School of the Arts, for their invaluable support and collaboration in bringing this event to life.
A special thank you goes to our workshop instructor, JNSA Site Director Carmen Moses, for guiding us through such an inspiring journey of art and self-discovery and healing. We also extend our appreciation to our other community partners, Serenity Behavioral Health Systems, SafeHomes Domestic Violence Center, and Project Impact Augusta for creating a safe space, setting up outreach tables, engaging in one-on-one conversations during the event, and providing essential resources on disability, elder, domestic, and sexual abuse to all those who attended.

If you or someone you know needs disability, elder, sexual abuse, or domestic violence resources. Please reach out to the local Abuse and Domestic Violence Assistance Hotline at 706-724-5200, or contact the 24-Hour Safe Homes Crisis Line at 706-736-2499 for support.

Meet Gaylon Tootle!
A remarkable individual who dedicated his life to advocating for voting rights, particularly within the Georgia disability community. Born blind, Gaylon graduated from the University of Georgia and served as vice president of the Georgia Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind. His unwavering belief in advocacy was a driving force in his work.

Gaylon’s legacy lives on through Save My Vote!, which continues to thrive under the leadership of Stacey Ramirez and many passionate community connectors, including his brother Stancil. The organization is currently focused on developing a documentary and informing their audience about voting resources, especially in light of changes brought by Georgia’s Election Integrity Act of 2021.
Gaylon also left a lasting impact on our team at Walton Options for Independent Living in Augusta, GA. His commitment to the community still inspires us all.
Join us in honoring Gaylon Tootle’s extraordinary legacy and continue to support the fight for equal voting rights for all.
