Wellness Wednesday is here! Each Wednesday I will be posting tips on wellness. Today’s post is a video of me practicing wellness in the form of physical fitness. How are you planning to practice wellness throughout the month of October?

While my first full-time job in the mental health field was working as a Substance Abuse Counselor and Case Manager, my internship while in graduate school focused on women and children impacted by Domestic Violence. I went on to later work explicitly with individuals who experienced sexual assault and/or child sexual abuse.

From the outside looking in, these areas may not seem connected at all. They are completely connected! Trauma is trauma. There are traumatic events that can happen when someone is in active addiction. Domestic Violence is a type of trauma. Sexual abuse is a type of trauma.

I now offer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy to help clients process trauma they have experienced.

Trust the process and keep going.

It is so hard to believe that this month is my career anniversary! I was hired for my first full-time job in the field of mental health exactly 20 years ago this summer. My first job was working as a substance abuse counselor and case manager with women working hard to maintain sobriety. I have learned a great deal over the last 20 years, and I plan to share some of those nuggets in future posts.

Wherever you are in your journey in this life, keep going!

Happy Thursday! I have introduced a new treatment modality to my work with clients, EMDR. What does that stand for? Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. I have found this treatment to be very helpful when clients have experienced trauma, and continue to feel stuck or feel as though they are continuously experiencing the traumatic event.

Stay tuned for future posts with information about EMDR.

The countdown to a new year does not feel like rainbows and sunshine to everyone. For many people, the thought of the year ending brings on stress and anxiety. Deadlines, projects that are due, and goals that may not be accomplished. The most important thing to remember to do is to breathe. Make each moment count by remaining focused on the present. Tomorrow will be taken care of tomorrow. You got this!

Can you believe that we are a mere 2 weeks from closing the chapter to 2024? It's becoming real for me as I'm seeing clients and beginning to tell them that I'll see them next year! Have you achieved goals that you planned for 2024? How are you feeling about this chapter coming to an end? It's not too late to work on becoming the best version of yourself.

It's the weekend! I am definitely looking forward to some relaxation this weekend. This is the time of year when there are a lot of holiday parties and get togethers with friends and family. Reminder: Your journey will not look the same as others. Many people dread these events, as it is easy to compare yourself to the progress of others.

Continue to work on being the best version of yourself. Comparison can lead to feelings of sadness and depression. Don't give up on yourself. Find something that you love about yourself and your journey.

December is here! The holiday season is a time of joy for many, but can also represent sadness and loneliness. Maybe you didn't accomplish as much as you wanted professionally or personally this year. Maybe you're anxious about 2025. Maybe you put a pause on addressing past traumas you have experienced.

Take a deep breath and remind yourself to take things one step at a time. It's not too late to address these issues and concerns in therapy. It's not too late to begin working on the next phase of your life.

Breathe. Maintain a Positive Outlook.

And breathe.....

Mondays can be pretty hectic for many reasons. Rather it's getting kids out the door for school, sitting in rush hour traffic, or feeling sad about your weekend coming to an end. Make sure you take time to breathe.

Many people underestimate the importance of breathing. Interesting fact: When you practice diaphragmatic breathing, you actually activate the vagus nerve which helps you relax and think clearly.

On this Monday, remember to take a deep breath.

It's Friday, It's Friday, it's the end of the week it's the last day......what you gonna do??

Let's have some fun on this Friday! If you lived in Atlanta and listened to Ryan Camera's radio show, the lyrics above are very familiar. Do you have plans to slow down this weekend? Do something fun with family and/or friends?

It's hard to believe that we are already in the 8th month of this year. Don't forget to prioritize your mental health, which includes relaxation and fun! It can also include seeking a mental health clinician to explore healthy coping skills.

Many folks across the world are completely mesmerized in watching the Olympics! It has been amazing to watch Simone Biles excel this year after taking time to focus on her mental health after the 2020 Olympics. To hear a GOAT (Greatest of All Time) casually mention having a therapy session before helping her team win gold at the Olympics in Paris was simply incredible. As a matter of fact, after she won gold in the individual all around category, she posted a photo of herself with the caption "Mental Health Matters."

Are you continuing to prioritize your mental health? It is very easy to neglect mental health, and mark it not as important as other things occurring in your life. This is your reminder that prioritizing your mental health is instrumental in being successful in all areas of your life.
