Right now, families across the country are holding their breath.

Because of the federal shutdown, states are warning that November SNAP benefits may be delayed - or not issued at all - unless funding is restored soon.

At Hope House, that uncertainty is terrifying for the 42 families living on our campus.

More than 90% of the families we serve rely on SNAP to keep food on the table while they rebuild their lives.

We’re preparing now. Because hunger can’t wait.

The ladies from Solid Rock Baptist Church of Appling showed up to Hope House last week!

Pillows, towels, sheets, toiletries… all the things that turn an empty apartment into a home.

One of the women who helped organize the donation actually worked at Hope House nearly 15 years ago. Back when we were still a handful of houses instead of the all-inclusive campus we are today. She shared stories from those early days, and it reminded us just how far we’ve come. A lot has changed since the 90s, but our mission hasn’t.

Before they left, the group gathered with staff to pray for the women and families we serve, and for the team who does the invisible work every day to help them heal.

When a family graduates, they take their belongings with them as they move into their next chapter, which means we’re always restocking for the next 42 families who will walk through our doors. Donations like these help us keep every apartment ready. And every family surrounded by care.

Thank you, Solid Rock Baptist Church, for reminding us that Hope House lives in the hearts of everyone who’s seen what recovery can do. 💜

PROUD MOMENT!

This year has tested our strength in more ways than one. Through it all, our team has kept showing up for women and families working to rebuild their lives.

We are honored to share that Hope House of Augusta was recognized by the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities as the 2025 Regional Outstanding Behavioral Health Provider for Region 2.

This award belongs to our staff, who continue to believe in recovery, dignity, and hope even on the hardest days. After a year that left many of us feeling forgotten and worn down, this recognition reminded us that the work still matters and that people still see it.

Pictured are Dr. Nicole Armstrong, Assistant Director, and Jai-Sheena Garnett, Clinical Director, accepting the award on behalf of the entire Hope House family.

As we move into the end of the year, we remain deeply grateful for the community that stands beside us. Your support helps this work continue. 💜

Recovery doesn’t happen in isolation. Families and friends can play a powerful role in healing. Here are a few ways to support your loved one in recovery:

💜 Stay connected, with boundaries. Isolation feeds addiction, but healthy points of contact remind your loved one they’re not alone.

🌱 Encourage treatment and healthy routines. Support appointments, groups, and positive daily habits like meals, sleep, and rest.

✨ Focus on love and encouragement, not shame. Celebrate progress and highlight strengths, words of hope go farther than words of blame.

⏳ Remember recovery is a process, not a single event. Be patient through setbacks and honor each step forward.

At Hope House, we see recovery restore not only women’s lives, but their families and futures too. Your support makes this possible — from providing safe housing to making sure families have the stability they need to thrive.

Recovery is REAL when home is safe, stable, and filled with care. At Hope House, housing is not an afterthought. It’s a foundation of treatment. Families often come to us without a secure place to live. Providing housing during recovery, and supporting women as they transition into homes of their own, restores dignity and stability. A safe home makes recovery possible.

If you have ever applied to Hope House, chances are the first friendly voice you heard was our Intake Coordinator, DeAnna Walden. DeAnna is in long-term recovery, with over 8 years free from mind-altering substances, and her journey continues to inspire the women and families we serve.

Because of recovery, DeAnna gets to be a dependable worker, a present wife, a loving friend, and a daughter who can care for her 87-year-old mother. At Hope House, she uses her story to remind women that transformation is possible.

Every day, she watches women arrive in hopelessness and grow into mothers, friends, and community members who know their worth. Her hopeful message to anyone starting out is simple but powerful:

"Recovery is possible no matter what the circumstances. Trust the process, even when things get hard."

We are grateful for DeAnna, not only for the work she does but for the light she shines on the path to recovery.

There are so many myths about recovery that can make it harder for families and friends to know how to help. Let’s clear a few of them up:

❌ Myth: People just need more willpower.
✅ Fact: Recovery takes support, treatment, and new tools to heal.

❌ Myth: Being supportive is the same as enabling.
✅ Fact: Showing up in healthy ways makes a real difference.

❌ Myth: Someone has to “hit rock bottom” before recovery.
✅ Fact: Recovery can begin anytime. Waiting can be dangerous.

❌ Myth: Treatment fixes everything.
✅ Fact: Treatment is the starting line, not the finish.

At Hope House, we know recovery is real and it’s possible. Every day, we see women and families building new lives filled with hope, dignity, and self-sufficiency. 💜
