"I never would have imagined that my 77-year-old mother would be a candidate for donation - especially for her eyes as she had worn glasses since she was 3 years old. She was a nurse so I was thrilled to think she could continue to help others even if she wasn’t with us anymore.

She was a great mom who taught me a very strong work ethic. She dedicated her life to being a nurse and helping others. Her family meant everything to her. She met my dad when she was 5 years old and they grew up together. They were so in love, and I can honestly say we were a very happy family. My mom loved the mountains of Colorado and never got tired of the views or the wildlife.

My mom never mentioned being an organ donor, probably because she never realized that she could be at her age. I was very surprised to learn it was an option, and being a registered donor myself, I thought, 'I need to do this.' I’m so glad I got the phone call, despite the terrible circumstances. It means everything to me that she can still help people despite not being here anymore."

Joy, the daughter of Rosemary, an eye tissue donor, recently shared her joy with us, expressing how her mother's gift of sight has brought healing to their family.

It's essential to understand that the impact of eye, organ, and tissue donation transcends age and touches all generations. The act of donation not only transforms the life of the recipient but also creates a ripple effect of positivity throughout families and communities.

We encourage you to talk about donation with your loved ones, from grandparents to grandchildren. By discussing donation and sharing your decision, you contribute to a legacy of giving that can extend far beyond your own lifetime. Together, we can create a future where the gift of sight is available to all who need it, fostering a world of connection and hope.

"In your darkest hour you selflessly chose to give light to a total stranger." ~ Charlotte, cronea transplant recipient

Though they may never meet, there exists an invisible thread connecting the transplant recipient and the donor family. This bond is woven through shared humanity and the profound act of giving selflessly. Eye tissue transplant recipients often find themselves grappling with a whirlwind of emotions as they see the beauty of the world once again.

Gratitude profoundly stands out among the emotions, and one they often yearn to express to their donor family who helped make their restored sight possible.

: The cornea is an integral part of the human eye, playing a critical role in our ability to see clearly. The cornea is a transparent, dome-shaped surface that covers the front of the eye. One of its most essential functions is the ability to refract light, contributing to about two-thirds of the eye's focusing power. Learn how this amazing tissue can be donated and then restore sight for others in need!

Prioritizing eye health is important, especially as we dive back into our work routines after the holidays. A quick and easy tip is to remember the 20-20-20 rule -- every 20 minutes look at least 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. Eye strain can be common for those who stare at digital devices for long periods of time.
