We are pleased to announce that the Colorado Academy of Family Physicians has hired Anjali Budhiraja as our new Director of Communications and Member Engagement!

Anjali joins us with more than 25 years of experience in communications across government, nonprofit, and education. Her recent work at the USDA on SNAP and WIC programs gives her deep experience working at the intersection of public health and clinical care, where family physicians make a difference.

At CAFP, Anjali will lead our efforts to engage members, share member stories, and strengthen our voice in support of Colorado family physicians. Join us in welcoming Anjali to the CAFP team!

Last Friday, the White House issued a proclamation regarding all new H1B visa applications. The proclamation would implement a $100,000 registration fee, to be paid by prospective employers, effective September 21, 2025.

More than 20 percent of licensed physicians in the U.S. are foreign trained and H-1B physicians are an essential part of our health care system, often delivering patient care in greatest areas of need. This action would be detrimental and further exacerbate the workforce gaps we are seeing in our primary care system.

Please use this Speak Out to tell your lawmakers that all physicians, including residents, fellows, researchers, and non-clinical physicians need to be exempt from this fee:

This year, CAFP championed and passed HB25-1176, new legislation that prohibits invasive and stigmatizing mental health questions on the medical licensure application. Together, we are building a future where physicians can seek help without fear or stigma.

CAFP’s advocacy has played a pivotal role in shaping legislation that now bans noncompete agreements for physicians across Colorado, effective August 2025—ensuring clinicians can stay where they're needed without unnecessary restrictions. This change comes amid a broader wave of states followed suit, recognizing how restrictive covenants block patient access and hinder physician freedom.

States are increasingly banning or restricting mandatory noncompete agreements for doctors and other clinicians in a bid to preserve patient access to healthcare.

Colorado has issued a standing order to allow pharmacists to provide COVID-19 vaccines without individual prescriptions. The standing order will take effect on Friday, September 5, 2025 and will serve as a prescription, allowing all Coloradans aged 6 months and older to receive updated COVID-19 vaccines directly at a pharmacy without a separate doctor’s appointment or prescription.
