Team members Kristin Gilbertson, Alexandra Enriquez, and Lori Miller from our Behavioral Health program recently attended the College Career and Wellness Fair at West Aurora High School!

The event welcomed high school students and families in grades 9–12 from Kane, Kendall, DuPage, DeKalb and LaSalle counties, offering the opportunity to explore hundreds of colleges, gather information about career interests, and even find part-time or summer job opportunities.

We’re proud to support students and families as they plan for their futures and connect them with valuable behavioral health resources in the community. 🌟

March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month! 💙 It’s a time to celebrate the contributions, achievements, and inclusion of people with developmental disabilities in our communities. First established in 1987 by The Arc of the United States this national observance reminds us how important it is to create opportunities for people of all abilities to live, work, and thrive.

All month long, advocates, families, and organizations are raising awareness, sharing stories, and breaking down barriers. From inclusive employment to accessible housing and meaningful connections, inclusion makes our communities stronger for everyone.

Join us in learning, uplifting voices, and supporting initiatives that build a more welcoming and inclusive world.

👾🕹️Leveling Up Together!🎳🧸

Instead of taking his birthday off this year, Direct Support Professional Gavin Shearer brought his clients and coworkers along for the fun! At Elgin Lanes, the "Mark Avenue Guys" enjoyed countless rounds of games in the arcade, a competitive 8-player game of bowling, and delicious concession snacks. One of Gavin's long-time clients, RJ, even gave him a plush pickle he won out of the claw machine! Having everyone come together, Gavin says, made his birthday extra special this year. 🥳

Tom is leveling up his kitchen skills with the help of Culinary Specialist Anna Barnes! Every month, he and his staff travel to the O'Shea Center kitchen in Elgin to learn a new recipe he can implement into his diet at home. This time? Marinated chicken and wild rice! 😋

💗Last week was Random Acts of Kindness Week!🩵

Through simple acts of thoughtful gestures that spark joy, inspire change, and create impact, AID Elgin area clients and staff are making a positive difference in our community. Each story touched lives, leaving behind beaming smiles and full hearts. 🫂 In a world seemingly so divided, kindness reminds us to take care of each other, encourage compassion, and create spaces where everyone feels respected, welcomed, and valued! 🥰

Thank you to Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Karen Goetze, for cultivating an atmosphere of kindness, this week and every week, and for helping make Random Acts of Kindness Week special!

📢Help Support Kiki’s Law!😷

Kiki’s Law (Illinois SB3340) helps protect the rights of people who need to wear masks or other protective medical equipment in public. Named after transplant patient Colette “Kiki” Walkington, pictured with her father and advocate Greg Walkington, Director of the Family Transition Project at The Arc of Illinois, the bill ensures individuals with weakened immune systems, disabilities, or chronic health conditions can safely access businesses, jobs, and public spaces without discrimination or harassment. It’s about compassion, accessibility, and giving vulnerable Illinoisans the freedom to protect their health while participating fully in their communities. ❤️
