Midweek Reminder

The middle of the week can feel a lot like the middle of survivorship.

Not the beginning, when everything is new and urgent.
Not the milestone moment, when everyone is celebrating.

Just… the middle.

The follow-up appointments.
The fatigue that still lingers.
The emotions that don’t follow a neat timeline.
The quiet strength it takes to keep going.

If today feels heavy, steady, or somewhere in between, that’s okay. Survivorship is not about constant positivity. It’s about showing up for yourself one day at a time.

At Waterford Place, we believe healing happens in the middle moments too — in conversation, in community, in shared understanding.

You don’t have to power through this week alone. 💛
We’re here with you.

Cancer does not only impact the body. It often brings forward deep spiritual questions too.

In the Summer 2024 issue of CURE, the story “Matters of Faith” reflects on how a cancer diagnosis can challenge, reshape, and sometimes even strengthen a person’s faith. Many individuals wrestle with doubt, fear, anger, or uncertainty. Others discover a renewed sense of purpose and connection. What becomes clear is the importance of having a safe space to talk about it all.

At Waterford Place, our monthly Soul Tending group was created for this very reason. They meet the first Thursday of every month from 6:30-8 pm.

Soul Tending supports those navigating both the cancer journey and their faith journey. It is a welcoming space where participants can share openly, ask hard questions, reflect, and be heard without judgment. There is no expectation of a specific tradition. We honor where you are and support you in strengthening or reconnecting with your own faith practices in ways that feel meaningful to you.

Cancer affects the whole person. Your spiritual well-being matters too. If you are looking for a space to tend to your soul while navigating cancer, we invite you to join us.

Sometimes the hardest part isn’t treatment. It’s after.

After the appointments slow down.
After the meals stop coming.
After everyone assumes you’re “back to normal.”

Survivorship can feel isolating even when you’re surrounded by people.

At Waterford Place Cancer Resource Center, we create space for honest conversations, shared experiences, and support that continues beyond treatment.

Whether you’re newly diagnosed, in treatment, or years into survivorship — there’s a place for you here.

Starting an exercise routine can feel scary, especially if you worry about pain, injury, or doing it wrong. At Waterford Place, you do not have to feel ready to begin. You just have to begin.

Movement does not need to be intense or perfect to matter. Small steps build strength, confidence, and trust in your body. A short walk, gentle strength work, or simple balance exercises can make a real difference over time.

Our movement programs are designed to meet you where you are and support you at your own pace. You are encouraged to move safely, consistently, and with guidance.

You are capable of more than you think. Start with what feels manageable today.

Call 331-301-5280 to learn more about our movement programs.

A big thank you to Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.-Bolingbrook, IL for the donation of these beautiful blankets!

And a special shout-out to Soror Caresse Johnson for making sure each blanket was delivered with so much love and care.

Your generosity helps bring comfort and warmth to those who need it most.

🤔🤔Remember when we got together on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day to make no sew blankets?

Mr. Omar Ramos and Ms. Kathy Perez were on sight today @ Waterford Place to accept our donation of these beautiful blankets. We look forward to this service project every year.

Thank you Soror Caresse Johnson for making sure these blankets were delivered with love and care. 💙💛

Did you know that those impacted by cancer are always welcome to drop in at Waterford whenever we’re open, no appointment needed?

We have cozy, peaceful spaces throughout the center that invite rest, reflection, and relaxation. Curl up by the fireplace in our gathering room, spend quiet time in the chapel, or settle into a good book in our library.

If you need a gentle place to pause, breathe, and warm up, both in body and spirit, our doors are open. Come in from the cold and be embraced by the space and the people who fill it with care.

Last night we had an impactful conversation about intimacy and well being after cancer, a topic that is often difficult to talk about yet so important to acknowledge.

Cancer can change how we see our bodies, our relationships, and ourselves. You are not alone in navigating these changes, and there is space for healing, reconnection, and hope.

Thank you to Dr Amina Ahmed, Dr Madeline Stark, and Dr Lauren Rynar for speaking so well to the topic with professionalism, compassion, and practical insights.

If you are on this journey, know that your experiences are valid, your questions matter, and support is available. Together, we continue creating safe spaces for honest conversations, learning, and growth.

💛 You deserve care, compassion, and a future that includes connection, joy, and wholeness.
