If she could go back in time, CU Cancer Center leader Stephanie Farmer, MHA, would encourage her younger self to always keep learning. It’s a reminder for all of us that curiosity and asking the right questions can open the door to growth and opportunity.
“There are just under two cases per million patients each year, so it's not a common tumor, but the big issue with this tumor is the morbidity and the neurological damage that it causes,” says CU Cancer Center member Todd Hankinson, MD.

In 2013, Baxter found his forever home with Dara and Nate Johnson — a calm, gentle rescue who quickly became the heart of their family. When sinonasal carcinoma threatened his life, the Johnsons turned to the CSU Animal Cancer Center, a partner of the CU Cancer Center, where a clinical trial led by cancer center’s Keara Boss, DVM, PhD, offered something precious: hope.
Through innovative radiation therapy paired with repurposed medications, Baxter regained his breath, his energy, and his joy. “He’s not just a patient,” says Kristen Weishaar, DVM, MS, the clinical trials director of Flint Animal Cancer Center. “He’s a pioneer.”
