March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, a time to recognize the many ways people with developmental disabilities contribute to our communities. Meaningful work is one of those ways.

Work can bring confidence, connection, and a sense of purpose. For many individuals with developmental disabilities, finding the right job opens the door to greater independence and belonging.

Through supported employment services, individuals work alongside Employment Consultants and Job Coaches to explore their interests, build skills, and find opportunities that match their strengths. Support can include discovery, internships, benefits guidance, and on-the-job coaching.

Around 11–12% of Coloradans report having a disability, according to U.S. Census estimates. That’s not a small number — it reflects friends, coworkers, classmates, and family members across our state.

Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month reminds us that inclusive communities take intention, partnership, and care. Through programs and services offered by Continuum of Colorado, families, individuals, and providers work together every day to build communities where people can live, work, and truly belong.
