Dear NAMI KDK Community,

I am thrilled to introduce Lesley Melissa Avila as our new Part-Time Spanish Program Coordinator.

Melissa holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Health with a minor in Nutrition, Health, and Wellness. She currently works as an ER Patient Care Technician at UChicago Medicine Advent Health, providing direct patient care to diverse populations in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.

During her internship with NAMI KDK, Lesley worked closely with the Program Coordinator and Executive Director to support program planning, outreach, coordination, and participant tracking. She also delivered mental health education presentations, assisted with data collection and reporting—experiences that align closely with the responsibilities of her new role.

Please join me in warmly welcoming Melissa to the NAMI KDK team!

Warm regards,

Luisa Cicero
Executive Director

This Lunar New Year feels especially meaningful as we welcome the Year of the Fire Horse — a rare moment that comes around only once every 60 years.

The Horse is often associated with energy and forward movement. Paired with the fire element, it reflects boldness, determination, and the courage to embrace change.

At NAMI, we know that growth doesn’t always mean moving fast. Sometimes it means letting go of old patterns, staying grounded, and giving ourselves grace as we move forward.

As we celebrate, we’re reflecting on what it can look like to carry that Fire Horse energy into our mental health journeys — with intention, compassion, and hope.

Here’s to moving forward, together. 🧧✨

Dear NAMI KDK Community,

We are pleased to announce that NAMI KDK is opening a search for a Part-Time Executive Director.

For 34 years, NAMI KDK has remained steadfast in its commitment to mental health across Kane-South, DeKalb, and Kendall counties. Our mission continues to be providing free, non-clinical mental health education, support, and advocacy to individuals, families, and the broader community. We are confident that this next chapter will further strengthen that commitment.

As we begin the search for our new leader, we extend our sincere gratitude to Luisa Cicero for her dedication and passionate leadership during her time as Executive Director. We wish her continued success in her new role as Affiliate & Statewide Programs Manager with NAMI Illinois.

Sincerely,

Kathryn Manning

During the session, we explored the five most common mental health conditions and shared helpful information and resources with the residents. The conversation sparked curiosity and reflection, and participants actively engaged, asking questions and sharing their thoughts.

It was a meaningful and uplifting gathering, leaving residents feeling informed, supported, and appreciated—reminding us of the power of connection, understanding, and community.
