💚 Our ACP Resident of the Month is Shawna M! We're so proud of her and can't wait to see her thrive even more! 🖤 She is so grateful:

I’m deeply honored and honestly overwhelmed to be chosen as Resident of the Month. When I first came here, I was broken in ways I didn’t even know how to put into words. I had lost myself. But what I never truly lost — even in my darkest moments — was my faith.

As a Christian woman, my relationship with God has been the foundation of my recovery. There were nights I cried out in prayer, not knowing how I would make it through another day. And somehow, He carried me. When I felt weak, He was strong. When I wanted to give up, He reminded me that my story wasn’t over.

Sobriety for me isn’t just about staying clean — it’s about surrender. It’s about trusting that God’s plan for my life is bigger than my past mistakes. It’s about waking up each day and choosing obedience, growth, and healing, even when it’s uncomfortable.

I’m so grateful for this house and for each of you. God has used this place and these women to shape me, humble me, and teach me how to love myself again. I’m learning that I am not defined by my addiction — I am defined by being a daughter of the King.

Thank you for seeing the growth in me. All the glory goes to God. I’m still becoming, still healing, and still trusting Him every step of the way.

Over the weekend, we celebrated Chance O. completing his leadership training! 🥳🥳🥳 Thanks for all you do for Hazelbrook, Chance, we are truly appreciative and can't wait to see what your future holds! 💚🖤

In his own words, here's what Chance said, "Today marks the completion of a 10-week journey that challenged me to grow not just as a House Manager, but also as an individual. Both this class and the community here at Hazelbrook have taught me that leadership isn’t about authority — it’s about accountability, it's about consistency, it's about empathy and the service we provide for our brothers and sisters in recovery. I’ve learned that real leadership begins with self-awareness and is strengthened through communication, integrity, and the willingness to push yourself even when it's not easy.

With patience, and focus Hazelbrook, its leaders and it's residents have reshaped how I carry myself and the responsibility I carry when others look to me for guidance.

As I continue my role as a house manager at Pitkin House in Aurora, I will use all these leadership skills to help strengthen Hazelbrooks structure, compassion and it's foundation of recovery that we provide for our community.

What we do matters. Our staff works tirelessly and deals with more situations in a week than most people do in their lifetime. It's not an exaggeration, it's just the reality of our line of work and we wouldn't change it. Every now and then we have someone express gratitude that makes our souls smile.
