Giving Tuesday with Amazon Smile

The Bess Davis Foundation has enjoyed a wonderful year with new opportunities and exciting stories of people we have helped. We will need to continue to raise money but this holiday season we are going to ask everyone to do something a little different\.

Starting today we ask that you go to your Amazon setting, add Amazon Smile Program, and add the Bess Davis Foundation as your charity of choice. Instead of a donation, each purchase you make this holiday season Amazon will donate a small percentage to our organization to help a family member in need of support and recovery from a damaging disease. We hope you will make a simple effort and follow the link below to start supporting today!

In the coming months, we will be sharing some exciting news including a new partnership that is going to help us directly support the formerly incarcerated in need of immediate help with their recovery. We need your support through donations in any amount you can. Our focus is to help one person at a time so that they get all the help they need until they find their recovery. We maximize every dollar and we will need more help in the coming months. Please consider helping those in need but most importantly you will be helping to save a life.

Raise money, support your friends, give to a cause. Show you care.

One of the toughest things to deal with and admit is that someone we know really has a problem. Both for the person struggling with addiction and also for the family and friends who have to watch it. This is a story that may be all too common or something you may be experiencing now. Please do not wait to help before its too late.

On July 9, 2021, we lost our oldest child, Rory, to an opioid overdose. He was 29 years old. Summarizing the last 20 years of Rory’s struggle with ADHD, mental health and substance use feels daunting. I remember the day he was born being overwhelmed by the need to keep him safe. It is heartbrea...

Part of our journey has been to help others suffering from addiction but it is also important to remember why we started the Foundation. I would encourage you to watch this video about Bess to understand why everyone has to keep trying because these are real lives and not just numbers...

Bess was like any other 22-year-old woman with a future ahead of her. She was born and raised in the Far West neighborhood of Austin Texas. She was looking ...

One of the hardest things for many people to understand is that those who have addictions and are involved in the criminal justice system is that for those with the disease act in unhealthy ways because of their disease and their need to use. Now, this doesn't excuse people for their actions but punishing someone who needs help isn't the answer either. Evidence shows that those with addictions who get treatment are less likely to repeat their offenses when they were using. We know this isn't easy to hear but we encourage many to understand that people can and do change with the right help.

During the past 15 years, concerns about crime and violence have prompted increased law enforcement, prosecution, and punishment. But although the “get tough” approach may have contributed to recent reductions in crime, there are limits to its ability to enhance the public’s safety and general...

One way you can help us is to learn more about how to have conversations with friends and families. The first link can help start using facts and good information to help inform others about how people really struggle with substance use.

The other way you can help is not only spread the word but also to share our information or donate today. Every dollar goes directly to those we help anywhere from helping them get on their feet to helping them find the treatment they may desperately need. Remember, this isn't just about the people we don't know but the money we raise is for anyone just like any family or friend you know that has the same struggle.
