Being independent is a strength… but sometimes “naturally independent” is code for:

- I don’t trust people to show up for me
- It’s safer if I rely on myself
- I pull away when I’m anxious instead of saying I’m overwhelmed

That’s not a personality trait. That’s a protection strategy. And honestly, protection makes sense… until it starts impacting your relationships.

I used to believe that being independent meant handling everything on my own. But constantly trying to prove you’re enough is soooo exhausting. Most burnout I see in high-achieving people doesn’t come from being weak. It comes from over-functioning, overthinking, and over-carrying.

Anxiety can feel urgent, very convincing, and very certain. But loud doesn’t equal true.

Just because your mind is telling you something over and over, doesn’t mean it’s a fact. A lot of relationship anxiety, self-doubt, and overthinking starts with thoughts that feel real but haven’t been questioned.

Learning to separate the spiraling from the truth is a skill… and it’s one we build in therapy all the time.

Anxiety is already loud. It doesn’t need shame layered on top of it. In my office, we don’t minimize your experience. We don’t reduce it to positive thinking. And when you understand the pattern, you can actually change it.
