It DOES matter.

This is not about politics, it’s about basic human decency and respect. Using the R-word is not only seriously outdated, it is disgusting.

It blinds people from seeing capabilities.
Its use degrades and dehumanizes people with disabilities. When used, it’s hurtful and wounds millions of people, their families and friends.

We stand strong as proud, hard-working, American citizens, who deserve to be treated with dignity and respect like everyone else.

Due to the winter weather forecast, tonight's activity (bingo) has been canceled.

Everyone’s safety is our top priority, and we want to ensure all participants, families, and staff stay safe.

Yesterday’s November forecast came with deeply troubling comments from Governor Walz suggesting he will push for more cuts to disability waiver services in 2026.

After more than $1 billion in reductions last session, and in the middle of ongoing chaos caused by unilateral administrative actions like a new payment review process with up-to-90-day payment pauses and a new two-year 245D licensing moratorium, Minnesotans with disabilities cannot bear additional harm.

These services are essential. They keep people safe, supported, and connected to their communities. We urge the Governor and lawmakers to engage with providers, individuals with disabilities, and families before making further decisions that destabilize lives.

Minnesotans with disabilities should not be asked to
give more to balance the state budget.

🌟 LIFE Mower County is Seeking New Board Members! 🌟

We currently have four openings and are looking for caring, committed individuals who want to make a meaningful impact in the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).

We welcome interest from:
👨‍👩‍👧 Family members or caregivers of individuals with I/DD
💼 Professionals — especially those with backgrounds in finance/accounting, legal/governance, healthcare/education/social work, or marketing/fundraising
🌍 Community leaders — civic, business, faith, and more

💙 Become a LIFE Mower County Board Member

Our Board plays a key role in advising, governing, and guiding the mission and direction of our organization.

Our Mission:
Our mission is to expand opportunities, empower people, and enrich lives for
individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families by providing a ​better ​quality of life through Learning, Inclusion, Fun, and Empowerment.

📝 Major Responsibilities Include:

• Overseeing policies and procedures
• Organizational leadership and advisement
• Committee participation and board structure
• Financial oversight, including annual budget review
• Supporting program planning and evaluation
• Reviewing reports and organizational updates
• Annual board performance review
• Promoting LIFE Mower County
• Fundraising and community outreach
• Assisting with volunteer and board recruitment

Board members share these responsibilities while bringing their unique experiences, perspectives, and connections to support LIFE Mower County.

🕒 Term Length & Time Commitment

• Board terms are 2 years, with the ability to serve up to 8 consecutive years
• Meetings are held the 4th Monday of each month at 5:30 PM at LIFE Mower County

🌈 Board Member Expectations

• Attend and participate in board meetings
• Serve on at least one standing committee
• Stay informed about community needs and opportunities
• Promote our mission and programs
• Understand organizational policies and finances
• Support LIFE Mower County financially (at any level)
• Volunteer at events, activities, and fundraisers
