This is staged.

Not my daughter reading to her stuffies —
but the room being this clean (and vacuumed) 😂

As a homeschool mom of 3, we spend a lot of time in our loft. On any given day you’ll find books, dry erase markers, papers, STEAM tools… all the things.

Friday is my “get-it-together” day.
If I miss it, Sunday is my backup.

I’ve noticed that once everything goes back to its place, my kids immediately embrace it like a blank canvas.

Essentially, room to breathe and create again 💭🎨

And because we have simple systems, it doesn’t take long 💪🏽

I see the same thing happen in other homes, too. When there’s a place for everything, the whole rhythm shifts.

Order doesn’t mean perfection.
It just creates margin 🤗 for bigs and littles alike.

Every couple of months, I pull out all the toy bins.
Not because I love chaos (I don’t 😅), but because toys slowly migrate.

Playdates happen.
Pieces end up in the wrong places.
And nothing feels peaceful anymore.

As I sort, something wild happens:
✨ My kids rediscover toys they forgot existed
✨ Play gets longer and more imaginative
✨ And I’m sitting there with a trash bag under my chair like a peaceful little unicorn 🧺🦄

This is also when I quietly retire the 𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 toys…
You know the ones.
The dried-up stamp.
The sticky thing from a party three birthdays ago.

We thank them for their service and move on 😌

This is one of my favorite ways to reset our playroom without buying anything new.

I just turn on my favorite playlist and off we go 🎶

Did you know children actually play longer and more creatively when they have fewer toys available?

🧸 Healthy toy access by age:

• Ages 0–2: thrive with 4–6 toys at a time
• Ages 3–5: do best with 6–10 toys at a time
• Ages 6–10: focus best with 8–12 toys at a time

✨ This refers to toys accessible at one time — not the total number of toys you own.

When too many toys are out, kids can feel overwhelmed and distracted.
When fewer toys are visible, their brains can focus, imagine, and rest.
