📣Congrats to our IDEA Quip Grant Recipient - Collin College🎉
Each year, the Collin Dental Hygiene Department proudly hosts Reclaim Smile, an outreach program that provides free dental services to survivors of human trafficking. Through collaboration with local advocates and safe homes, they connect with survivors who have recently been removed from trafficking situations and are beginning their journey toward healing, recovery, and independence. With the help of volunteer dental hygiene students, dentists, and hygienists, their team provides a range of comprehensive dental services, including cleanings, radiographs, exams, same-day extractions, and fillings. When additional care is needed, survivors are referred to local dentists who generously complete treatment at no cost. Their mission is simple: to play a small but meaningful role in restoring survivors’ oral health, self-esteem, and sense of dignity. In their most recent event, they treated 17 patients and provided over $14,000 worth of free dental care, including exams, prophylaxis, scaling and root planning, radiographs, extractions, and restorations. Several patients with complex needs received follow-up treatment through partner offices in the community, ensuring continuity of care beyond the event.
