I work with a lot of clients who were raised in fundamental religious cultures that I see as a therapist. I really enjoy my work with these folks navigating the unburdening of gender roles, exploring identity of self, and discovering new approaches to integrating a renewed sense of self and gender, ultimately redefining their unique relationship patterns.

Often there are power dynamics that shift due to the natural growth process away from antiquated gender roles. I love the assistance that kink can provide in encouraging play and curiosity when combating themes of fear and shame.

Though I support clients individually, I encourage my clients engage in couples work simultaneously to create a container for the dynamic work we do in session to be applied, shared, and actualized.

I am currently accepting new clients!

Since we view “resistance” as crucially guiding information and we don’t fight extreme protectors, the IFS approach generally evokes little negative transference (“We’re glad you showed up. What do you want us to know?”)

Externalizing helps parts to differentiate. While many clients are able to turn their attention inward and get enough separation from parts to communicate with them, some clients, especially those with trauma histories, are at first substantially blocked by protectors and will distract or dissociate if invited to pay attention to their internal experience. For them, externalizing options can be particularly useful and can be done with any one of a great number of props. - Frank Anderson

I think we should be able to talk about abusive patterns without good enough parents taking on intense shame because they did a harmful thing a few times by accident. But maybe we aren't quite there yet.

The current cultural pressure on parents to be perfect is absurd. The good news is that research says kids don't need perfect parents.

I learned about good enough parenting long before I began studying the nervous system and polyvagal theory, and this philosophy is foundational to anything I share on this page regarding parenting.

ℹ🌿 15 COMMON SIGNS OF UNRESOLVED TRAUMA |

Recognizing the signs of unresolved trauma can be tricky. Sometimes people who are having difficulties enter therapy without even knowing that they have suffered the trauma that is causing disruptions in their daily lives. The very nature of trauma lends itself to that. Often, when a person goes through a traumatic event, there is some degree of dissociation that happens and the person essentially "blocks out" all, or part, of the event, so his or her awareness of the trauma isn't accurate, making diagnosis difficult. However, there are some common signs of unresolved trauma that you can look for.
