For years, the Tarrant County Medical Society Alliance has championed TMA’s outreach programs. Alliance members improve the health of their community by fitting helmets on kids and promoting safety through Hard Hats for Little Heads and distributing books through Texas BookShare to help improve literacy. Over the years, the Tarrant alliance also has been involved with TMA’s vaccination program and continues to give thousands of shots annually through the Immunization Collaboration of Tarrant County.

Each year, the alliance gives between 500 and 1,000 helmets at elementary schools with underserved populations, community fairs, and neighborhood centers. They often team up with other organizations on events, including Cook Children's Medical Center, which hosts bike camps to help children with neurodivergent disorders learn to ride a bike. Before the camps, Cook’s provides a bike, and the alliance provides the helmets. Other collaborators on events include the Fort Worth Police Department and The Bike Gangs Of Fort Worth which give refurbished bikes to kids who don’t have a bike. Area medical and college students often provide volunteer assistance at events.

During the past two years, alliance members have given more than 3,000 books at Cook Children's Neighborhood Clinics located in lower income areas where families can get established in a medical home, and the alliance is looking to expand this program. Thanks, Tarrant alliance, for putting TMAA’s mission of building healthy communities into action!

The Measure by Nikki Erlich ask the big questions: What if you knew exactly how long you had to live and what is the true measure of your life? For those in the alliance, it looks a lot like strong friendships, meaningful work, and being together – topics discussed at the Bexar County Medical Society Alliance’s book club. Check out selections from TMAA’s new Book Club for your alliance book club or personal enjoyment. https://hubs.li/Q042YNDp0
