And this is where traditional NLP, mindset coaching, spiritual laws, and many forms of talk therapy miss the mark…
Trauma is unprocessed stored emotion, sensation, and experiences of the past held in the body and tucked deep into the mind.
Some trauma (capital T) is regarded by society as more intense whereas other trauma (lowercase t) might be as simple as your friend’s parent scolding you as a child.
Regardless of the “intensity” of the trauma, we’ve all experienced it and the imprint it can leave on our psyche, behavior, interpersonal relationships and level of safety we feel operating in the world is universal.
As a coach/teacher/space holder, being aware of how trauma presents itself and knowing how to skillfully engage with your client when their trauma response arises is one of the most important responsibilities you have.
A single question.
A single prompt.
A single visualization exercise.
All can activate a memory, sensation, or emotion within the person that sits in front of you.
The human brain and body is brilliant and miraculous in how it protects us and when you understand its protector parts and how to work with them - THAT is when you’ve become masterful at your craft.
