Our clients always ask.. What’s the difference between Sports massage and Deep Tissue? 👀

They do that a LOT in common! Both deep tissue and sports massage target muscle tension, stubborn aches and pains, and release fascia.

What makes Sports Massage special 💫 is helping recover from injuries ❤️‍🩹

➡️ Your massage therapist will check range of motion or address pain in different movements

➡️ Feel for tight muscles and scar tissue

➡️ She’ll use massage and stretching techniques to release the tension so you can regain your mobility 🙆‍♀️

Sports massage is a great fit for you if you’re:

✅ Healing old injuries

✅ Want more range of motion

✅ Enhancing recovery with an active lifestyle

Your massage therapist *CARES* about your posture, but we don’t JUDGE your posture — just to be clear 💛

Now more than ever, it’s so hard to keep “good posture” with all our screen time or just looking down at your work (cooking, cleaning,…)

So what do you do when it feels like you can’t move back into a better posture? Like you’re stuck?

It is absolutely possible to get “unstuck” from your postural patterns. I love how often my clients walk out of session telling me they feel like they have a new neck or a new back, or even a whole new body.

With myofascial release and fascia focused massage, we get a new chance to move and hold ourselves differently 💫

If you are looking for fascia focused massage in Austin, Texas, Neu Release Massage is the place for you 🩵

Schedule your massage on our website, or DM if you have any questions, and we’re happy to help!

Feet are wildly unappreciated. They work so hard yet receive so little attention and respect. So let me get on my soapbox here to right this wrong…

YOUR FEET ARE YOUR FOUNDATION 👏

Gravitationally, this is where it all begins. The alignment of the feet set the stage for proper functioning of the knees, hips, and back. As any builder knows, you can’t have a strong structure on a compromised foundation.

Most of us carry a lot of tension in the feet, caused by a lifetime of footwear, a.k.a. foot prisons. Our little feet don’t like to be in cages all day! The many bones designed for detailed articulations, instead get stuck together in one solid mass. This tightness takes away the foot‘s natural ability to adapt and effectively absorb stresses.

When we soften the fascia and the many little muscles of the feet, we open them up for a new opportunity. To regain the freedom to carry weight with an unbelievable lightness 🦋

Fascia health is more than just muscular health.

Fascia is a full body system, that supports every other function in the body. If your facia isn’t healthy, it’s going to cause problems, far beyond just tightness.

If you’re looking for fascia focused massage in Austin Texas, Neu Release Massage is here to help you 🩵

When fascia becomes tight and stuck, it’s a physical tension that pulls and restricts your body’s natural flow. This tension doesn’t JUST cause aches or limited movement, although we’re all familiar with that knot or ache that just won’t go away. But the effects of fascial tension go even deeper…

Your fascia is densely linked into the nervous system. The nerve receptors in your fascia are telling your brain about what’s going on and potential threats.

Tight fascia can send a stress signal to the vagus. Essentially, the body is sensing the physical stuckness as a kind of threat, triggering a protective stress response that keeps the body in a state of vigilance.

Overtime, this chronic tension creates a feedback loop of physical discomfort and emotional distress. They feed each other, making both issues harder to resolve and let go of.

Here comes the magic of fascia focused massage ✨

Fascia focused massage, or myofascial release, gently releases and reshapes fascia, so your body can untangle these restrictions and restore functional balance. As fascia loosens and your body moves more freely, it signals your nervous system to down regulate. This helps reduce stress hormones and promotes a feeling of safety and calm deep within.

On the structural level, we’re working with the fascia. On a subtle and energetic level, it’s a holistic rehoming discovered inside you 💛

Advanced TMJ training completed ✅

This was an amazing, in depth training intensive. We dove deep into disorders of the jaw, such as teeth clenching, bruxism, misaligned jaws, tongue ties, and related facial and head pains.

Skills learned:

🤔 Assessments to determine the muscles involved

📝 Crafting a treatment plan, unique to the individual and their issues

👉 Understanding trigger points and their related referral patterns, so we know where to find the ‘source’ of the pain. Hint: it’s not always exactly where it hurts!

😮 Intra-oral techniques (inside the mouth, with gloves of course) for deeper muscles of the jaw and skull

My clients (and myself) have been loving this work!!! 👏

Here is the most common feedback I’ve been receiving from my clients:

⭐️ “My whole head feels bigger and more open, like there’s less pressure inside”

⭐️ “Wow I don’t know THAT’S where my headache was coming from”

⭐️ “I’ve been clenching less. It feels like I’m more aware of my jaw”

⭐️ “My face has never felt so relaxed”

Personally, I’ve been a clencher for years, wearing down night guards with my mighty chomping 😬

I always thought my jaw issues stemmed from tension in my neck and shoulders, but I’ve been shocked to discover it can work downwards as well. A tight jaw can actually cause trigger points to form in the neck and shoulders!

🩵 Since receiving this TMJ work, my neck has been so much happier. And I don’t get headaches anymore.

If this sounds appealing to you, book a session with me, Maia, or feel free to DM with any questions you have.

Paddington Bear is off on another adventure! Greetings from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷

If you tried to book with me in January, you may have noticed that you’ll have to wait. I was fully booked seeing all my clients before I left, and out of office until early February. Sorry I didn’t have time to squeeze everyone in 😢

As much as I hate leaving my practice and amazing clients behind, this was the most valuable course I have EVER taken.

I had the incredible honor of training with Tom Myers, the creator of Anatomy Trains, a holistic view of myofascial continuities throughout the body. He is one of the most pivotal body workers of our generation, and his system is used by massage therapists, chiropractors, personal trainers, and movement teachers of all types.

His books and online teachings have guided my approach to massage therapy since the very beginning of my career. He views the body as a dynamic web, held together through balanced, opposing forces, with a floating structure within. Instead of a reductionist view of muscles and their roles, acting around a fixed skeleton, he looks at fascia as elongated lines of force and shock absorption, connecting toes to nose, in a dynamic web.

This course is called “When the Body Speaks” analyzing how emotional trauma interplays with posture, fascia, and tension. We dove deep into body reading, postural analysis, and the meaning behind different holding patterns.

Tom could put one of us in front of the class, and read us like a book. He noticed any imbalance, and theorized the potential trauma behind the pattern — and he was spot on, time after time. Many (unexpected) tears were shed, and healing happened ❤️‍🩹

Of course, there was much reverence and manual therapy for the all important psoas 🙏 and other muscles of breath.

I wil forever see the body differently, with greater understanding of the history and buried emotions within our fascia. And I can’t wait to share this work with you all! In the mean time, I’ll be reading books on the beach ✌️
