Birth story- Part 3: The third and final part to my birth story. Looking back I only have gratitude for feeling so supported and heard through the whole thing. I had the best birth team thanks to my husband, my friend and doula colleague and .romyghosh 🩷 feel free to ask any questions about any parts of my story. I am more than happy to elaborate 😊

Birth Story - Part 2: *story is in slides* Monday 7pm to Tuesday 7pm. Usually the longest part of inductions is getting your body to get the memo that labor needs to get started. This includes cervical ripening and slowly increasing the amount of pitocin and/or breaking your water, to eventually lead to consistent contractions and cervical change. It is so important that everyone has patience during this part. I appreciated the slow and steady approach that my doctor had. She was probably more patient than I was at this point. 🤪 To be continued…

Birth Story Part 1 - “The Backstory”: Story in shared in the slides…. I have enjoyed reading and being a part of so many birth stories over the years. Writing my own and sharing it has been such a vulnerable experience. I am not a writer and it is hard to truly express the raw emotion that I felt throughout a lot of my pregnancy and birth. Ultimately, I decided to share it because I found so many scary twin birth stories and so few positive ones. Here is my positive twin birth story. There are so many different ways to bring your babies into this world and they can all be beautiful and empowering 🩷

I sometimes say “let it be big” during a contraction to reflect the intensity of what my clients are feeling. Labor and birth are big emotionally and physically. Much to my surprise and delight I was gifted this today by a client and she said that this was such a helpful mantra for them even in the first few months of their baby’s life. So for everyone that is struggling today and needs this reminder “let it be big” and you don’t have to do it alone.

Thankful is an understatement. I attended 6 births this month (not my norm) and each one was so unique and raw and beautiful. Shortest was 2 hours and longest was 22 hours, what a wild ride. Also, look at this tiny adorable November baby that I got to say hi to this week.

I had a birthday this last weekend and I have been reflecting as I am entering a new decade and season of life. One of the things I am most thankful for in my life is my doula work.

I am thankful for finding work that I am passionate about through the ups and downs.

I am thankful that every birth is unique and has taught me a new lesson.

I am thankful for the birth worker friends I’ve made along the way.

I am thankful that every birth is unique and has taught me a new lesson.

Most importantly I am thankful for my clients who have invited me into a very intimate space to support them. It has been the utmost honor to be witness to their strength, beauty, badassery, vulnerability, and tears.

I would not be the woman I am today without all of you. So thank you from the bottom of my heart.

My first repeat doula client gave me this after her second baby was born. I had the honor of being with her for the birth of her third as well in February. This succulent is still going strong and just decided to have a baby itself. I can’t decide if I’m more excited about getting to help a family twice or that I’ve kept this plant alive for so long. 😉

Happy World Doula Week! We are all different in so many ways but one thing we all have in common is that we were born. There is something truly sacred about the moment that we become living breathing humans separate from another. Helping parents through this transition of adding new life to their families has been one of my greatest honors. Thanks to all the families who have made me a doula!

You cannot chose the outcome of your birth, but you can choose a provider, doctor or midwife, who you trust. I was at a birth over the weekend that would have ended in a c-section with many other providers. Instead she was patient, gave my client options and calmly waited for the baby to be born on her terms. My client was able to achieve the VBAC that she really wanted! Here are some signs that you have a supportive provider:

✨they give you options instead of telling you what you can and can’t do
✨they truly listen to your desires for birth
✨they take the time to listen to and answer your questions
✨they look at your birth plan/preferences and find ways to support you
✨they are not condescending
✨they work for you, not the other way around

There are some AMAZING providers out there! Please please please do yourself a favor and switch if you’re unhappy with yours. Doulas are happy to give suggestions of supportive providers who we’ve had the pleasure of working with.
