Are We Missing the Point of Yoga?
This morning, I found myself holding Downward Dog for longer than usual. No flow, no rush—just being. And in that moment, I was reminded of something profound: Yoga is not just movement. It’s connection.
In the West, we’ve turned yoga into a workout, a performance, or a functional movement system—which has its own value. But traditionally, yoga isn’t about getting deeper into a pose; it’s about getting deeper into yourself. It’s a practice of mind-body awareness that leads to spiritual illumination.
Yet, we often bring the same fast-paced, over-intellectualized energy from our daily lives onto the mat. Teachers fill the space with endless analogies and words. Music plays in the background. But in a traditional yoga class, there is no music. There is silence. There is breath. There is you, within yourself.
You don’t have to be “good” at yoga to do yoga. You don’t have to be flexible or master complex poses. If you’re alive, you can connect to your mind, body, and soul. That is the essence. That is the practice.
And this is what I love to share in my classes—this pure, intentional connection. I’ve had the fortune of teaching everyone from high-profile clients in Beverly Hills to consulting for seven-star hotels, running a studio in Goa, and guiding people worldwide through this deeper understanding of yoga.
So I’m inviting you to my classes at The Healing Temple on Fridays and March 1st a yoga devotional, breaking the fast together. PM for that event info! This marks the first day of the Baha’i fast, a time of spiritual devotion, and I’m gathering friends from all walks of life to practice together with this intention—bettering ourselves through mind, body, and spirit. Afterward, we’ll break the fast together with a nourishing potluck.
If you’re looking for a private session, message me directly. And if you want to support this journey beyond the mat, check out my A.WEAR.NESS t-shirts and the campaign—because this is more than a class; it’s a movement toward conscious living.
Join me. Let’s return to what yoga truly is.
Class is Thursdays 6:30 to 7:30pm at the Healing Temple - DM me to RSVP
