How being a know-it-all landed me my dream job 😂
In May 2024, I gave unsolicited marketing feedback to a guy on a sales call.
Almost two years later, I’m his COO and managing partner of one of the fastest growing marketing agencies in the music industry.
I wasn’t ready to buy what he was selling. But the know-it-all that I am, I had thoughts on his funnel. So I shared them anyway.
Three months later, he posted looking for a digital marketing expert.
I raised my hand.
We started working together. He was pivoting to content strategy for music artists and growing FAST.
December 28th: He asked what I was looking for in a role.
His answer to his own question? “YOU” (all caps).
Three days later, we mapped out what it would look like if I came on board. I started by taking over sales calls and helping him develop a CRM.
Within four months, a major label hired him as their SVP of Fan Engagement.
He asked me to run his company while he took the role.
He asked me to step up and run the company alongside him so that he can do both.
In the past six months I’ve sold $200K+, grown a team, fired a team, grown another team, and worked till 1am more times than I can count.
Here’s what I’ve learned being the right hand to someone building at breakneck speed:
👉 Speed is a competitive advantage. He has an idea at 9am, I’ve sold three programs by 5pm. We launch before we know if it’ll work.
👉 My imposter syndrome acts up constantly. People say “I want to talk to Ruff” and I’m like, “Excuse me, while I run the company.” But he always passes me the baton. Not everyone does that, one of the reasons I love being his right hand.
👉 Agencies historically have zero profit. Making this profitable while paying our team what they deserve? That’s the actual challenge.
This has been the ride of a life time.
I have no idea where this is going. But I’m here for it.
